LN Fortunate Coffee Bali 幸福咖啡馆 — Restaurant in Denpasar Barat

{ EDITED REVIEW - Oct 2020 } Post-corona this place has changed a lot and I have mixed feeling about it.

THE GOOD NEWS: The food is still good/excellent

THE BAD NEWS: The nice indoor seating area is closed and we only had the option to sit an outdoor area. Customer service is terrible and I was offended by a series of mistakes made by the staff.

It seems the staff has changed and the waiter serving us was young and definitely inexperienced in customer service: After taking our order (for two persons), he asked whether we wanted small or large portions. Feeling hungry, I chose "large" and later happened to discover that "large" served 10 persons! What a stupid question to have asked two guests!

At the end of the meal when the waiter presented the bill, I offered him cash. He enquired whether I had exact change and I communicated that I needed change and handed over my currency notes. Instead of taking my cash, the waiter, peered into my wallet and pointed at the smaller currency notes inside and said I had the exact change. I found it ridiculously rude that someone would look into my wallet - I felt an invasion of my privacy. I believe the customer is generally right... and in this case, my request was not unreasonable. Maybe it was a cultural issue, but having been here several years, this was strikingly unusual and rude.

Finally, the older man who arrived to take away our plates rudely communicated it was closing time... and more importantly, he was wearing his face mask at his chin level, exposing his nose and mouth completely. He was in uncomfortable close proximity and we made a hurried exit.

So, regretfully, I've downgraded my review for Fortunate Coffee from 5 to 3-stars.

I will re-visit this restaurant (it was a favourite) and hope to have a better experience.

{ ORIGINAL REVIEW - Nov 2019 } It’s a treat to visit this vegetarian eatery! It’s a large indoor-outdoor cafe at the rear of a huge Chinese Buddhist temple and it exudes their unique culture ... in fact you don’t see anyone other than members of their community.

It offers a wide range of vegetarian dishes organised under Vegetable, Mushroom and Tahu/Tofu sections. The food is excellent and having visited it often, I’d rate almost every dish a 5/5.

My favourites are the Terong Rawit Olive (egplant), the Asparagus Cha Jamur (mushroom) and the Sapo Tahu (tofu).

The restaurant is oddly located off one of the many busy streets from Seminyak (Sunset Road) towards Denpasar (Jl Imam Bonjol). Highly recommended 👍🏼

There’s a monastery and school on the grounds. The food is as pristine as it gets. And a meal for 4 persons costs less than IDR 150!

Great vegetarian/vegan food for very reasonable prices. Best go with several people bc even the small portions are pretty big. Nice kombucha which they serve with shot glasses which is cute. There is one iced coffee I quite like called casual elegant, funny name but it's very nice - the ice cubes are made of black coffee and it comes with soy milk.

Only sometimes the food can be a bit too salty, but overall lots of good options on the menu. If you request low salt I am sure they can accommodate. Service is very Bali-style, slow and casual but the staff are nice and kind, after all this place is situated in a Buddhist temple :)

Their Fortunate Rice set menu is a very cheap and filling meal that comes with 4 items I believe, in addition...

Review di tahun 2019 Awalnya agak males mau kesini lagi, tapi karena diajak teman yang selalu makan kesini tiap ke Bali jadi coba lagi kesini dan ternyata sudah banyak perubahan di menu makanannya !!!

Denger cerita teman, tante yang dulu masak di Harmoni Vege (sekarang uda tutup) yang sekarang jadi konsultan menu dan makanannya

Menu nya uda banyak banget en buat yang lagi neken budget makan bulanan cocok banget kesini karena menu harian nya sangat ramah di kantong!

Tapi tetep si menurut saya dengan tipe masakan nya yang masih gorengan, dan kadang gulanya berlebihan ini masih belum bisa dibilang yang sehat ya, tapi memang masih lebih sehat daripada lemak dari hewani

Jujur, pas denger info sudah buka di Bali, saya ga sabar pengen coba, overall saya cuma bisa bilang untuk tempat tang katanya sudah buka sebulan lebih ini, bagusan 'casing' daripada isinya

Great location Great ambiance Nice interior Cozy comfy feeling

Tapi mereka gagal untuk menyediakan makanan yang layak dimakan.

Well.. menu makanan aja ga ada, cuma disebut saja sama cici nya, nasi fortunate, mie happy, nasi goreng (dengan berbagai variasi)

Saya pesan nasi Fortunate, pesanan datang dengan tampilan 'mevvah' tapi tidak mengundang selera, sayurnya asinnn warbiasa 😥 nasi nya dingin.

Karena ga suka buang makanan ya sudah lah, ditelan-telan saja 😫

Mungkin karena fokus nya adalah pelayanan yah, jadi buat yang pernah ke Fortunate coffee cabang lain yang banyak variasi menarik, nah jangan terlalu banyak berharap ya untuk rasa, cukup untuk posting di IG sajah lah.

Dan buat pengelola nya bila sempat baca review saya, coba diperbaiki segera menu dan kualitas makanan nya, ini makanan terburuk yang pernah saya makan di vihara Maitreya 😥😥😥 masak nya pakai hati juga, hangan asal biar ada menu yang bisa...
