Overrated. Very disappointed. Not welcoming. Not recommended by our opinion. Extrem overpriced!
This place has such a good reputation, I heard so many times about it how delicious their chicken would be. Trying it today for the first time, we ended up to be very disappointed compared to their reputation and especially to such high price!
Already when entering the restaurant, we felt uncomfy. To us the place looks more like a cantine :( No nice atmosphere, kinda dark, only functional! First thing to see, some cheap souvenir stuff, tells me, 'leave your money here, anything else might not matter'...
Unfortunately I forgot to make some picture of the half chicken we ordered. Being so curious about that so often suggested taste, didn't leave me time grabbing for the camera. We took the meal as take away, as I definitely didn't want to sit in this uncomfy, dirty surrounding. Few minutes later, opening the box left me down again. If this was a half chicken, by lifetime it was probably a sick one so thin it was. Looked more like a quarter chicken. (No, we didn't expected Western chicken sizes.) Only this crunchy salty surrounding was more than enough. And that's it at the end. No tiny salad or any other extra except of little sambal. This crunchy stuff around is greasy as usual and veery salty. Totally nothing special about it to me! I ate a few Ayam goreng before. Just a simple meal. I couldn't find any difference in taste to all these simple street warung meals. Just the same, only that it costs three times as much at Suharti (52.500 IDR ?!)
Overall it's totally mysterious to us, how this place is still going around with such high reputation. Our meal and experience there was a...
Read moreThe food here is not bad, but the taste is different from the other Ayam Suharti with the two-rooster logo. First of all, Ayam Suharti at Adisucipto smells awful, like rotten fish. The manager and servers are also rude and arrogant. I have been there three times, and each time I received the same rude and arrogant treatment. I have decided never to return to this branch (Laksa Adisucipto). I went there with my students, as I visit Yogyakarta every summer. The décor is tacky as well. I enjoy Ayam Suharti, but I will only go to the one with the two-rooster logo. I didn’t know the difference at first—my driver initially took me to the other one, which I liked. Later, he kept bringing me to this place until I told him it was a different restaurant. That’s when he explained there are two different owners. After learning that, I told him never to take me to this one at...
Read moreDuring my trip to Yogyakarta last week, I stopped by the legendary Ayam Goreng Suharti. This is the first and original branch, which later expanded into many outlets across Indonesia and even overseas.
They are famous for their traditional Indonesian fried chicken, always served with a generous topping of serundeng (crispy fried grated coconut). The chicken is fried to golden perfection — tender on the inside, crispy on the outside, and deeply flavorful. Paired with the fragrant serundeng, it gives an extra crunch and richness that makes this dish truly special.
A Yogyakarta classic that has grown into an international name — definitely worth trying at the original branch if you want the most...
