Hai Shien Fang — Restaurant in Jakarta

Another hidden gem of a hotpot place deep inside the Pantai Mutiara residential complex. It's certainly not a spot that you simply accidentally find if you don't live within the complex. Yet, despite its "hidden" location, its reputation precedes people's discovery of the actual place. They also share the location with another restaurant and another establishment that sells yachts 🛥️ so don't wander off into the wrong place. It is located on the 4th floor of that location. The overall hotpot experience was quite good! The soups were great, the meats were great, the veggies and the mushrooms were great, and almost everything you would expect at a hot pot place met my standards. But what would pleasantly amaze you are their vast options and variety when it comes to their side dishes or let's call them "non-hotpot options".

I personally loved the pork belly and the fried salted egg shrimp with crispy corn. These two stood out to me as they complemented the hotpot really well. One (the pork belly) has thicker meat and a juicy texture, along with crunchy pieces of broccoli that gives you a satisfying bite that hot pot and boiled food won't. The crispy fried shrimp was the same, it gave the crunch you needed when eating mostly soft and boiled hot pot food.

Overall, I loved it. A little too expensive for my taste, but still quite good.

P.S. the seafood fried rice was horrible, and I'm assuminf their other fried rice dishes are also as bad. But don't take my word for it, go ahead and try and be the judge...
