Underrated? Naah. It is a hidden gem left under this crowded apartment.
I knew this place from a friend of mine who recommended this restaurant because of the British-American style menus. So, I checked it out and my jaw literally dropped.
I ordered 3 look-a-like breakfast menus. A big breakkie, an egg benedict with spinach, and an egg benedict with mushroom. All of them had different approaches that you might love.
The big breakkie is a full English breakfast. One big slice of sourdough (I think it had been pan seared before) topped with scrambled egg, an english sausages, a pair of beef bacon, baked beans, and sided with salad and grilled tomatoes. The main top notch point in these dishes is the scrambled egg. Oooh, you will love it, like you will lick it clean if there are left on your plate. They just successfully presented a whole plate of English breakfast with indies elements. Superb!
The egg benedict. Well, this is the dish that I love the most. A grilled large slice of sourdough, topped with boiled seasoned spinach and evenly spread smashed avocados, and all covered with 2 poached egg with sweet and sour yellow sauces. Top notch! Even the portion isn't as plenty ae the breakkie, but it surely can boost up your day. The sides had the same norm with the breakkie. How about the mushroom? It has a same recipe with the spinach one but offered more sweetness that coming from the mushroom. For me, the spicy sauces had useless present in this plate, I was afraid that the spicy sauces will ruined the taste of the entire plate, please put it aside.
I ordered the Beef Stew also. The taste is very delicious, but nothing special. Somewhat, it is the way it is. A traditional american style beef stew with mashed potato. I mostly love to enjoy it when scooping the beef stew soup with a slice of bread/sourdough. Love it.
The churros is exemplary and delicious with its sugary sweetness and crunchiness. Good choices if you order it for a side dish.
I must admit this tiny diner-style restaurant had plenty of good quality foods, but only 1 food that disappointed me. The croissant. I ordered a butter croissant that appeared to be an unfortunate croissant. The taste was bitter than I expected, it disturbed the taste atmosphere in my mouth. I haven't mentioned that the consistency of the croissant is much harder and "firmer" than I expected. I couldn't break the croissant layer with my own hand, if I insist, the croissant broke apart. No buttery taste that was supposed to appear. I would say a No No for the croissant.
The restaurant atmosphere is cozy but a little bit humid, maybe due to the AC not working well. If I may to give a score for this restaurant only on behalf of its food's taste, it will be 9 out of 10. Almost perfect. Highly recommended place to bring your partner and friends just to have a...

Green chili chicken rice for 45 K IDR++.
The chicken is really well made and they didn't skimp on the spices. There is more than enough heat for it to live up to it's sambal hijau roots, so do be warned. That being said, although i do thoroughly enjoy their soft and juicy chicken, i do find their rice preparation to be a bit too soft this time (the last time i ate here a few months ago it was much better). Luckily that egg on top really does elevate the dish with its soft yolk. Compliments to the chef!
Furthermore, they also added some really crunchy chips which i think is probably among the best you can find anywhere if you like these thin sliced types. Subsequently, i have to mention how delicious their stir-fried string beans and baby corn is. Lightly - and i must say perfectly - seasoned, the veggies are splendidly savoury and has that enjoyable hint of garlic (which other purveyors tend to overdo). The veggies are also perfectly cooked - it does not taste raw at all yet it retains such a good crunch.
However, i must say that the i personally prefer their Kecombrang chicken rice which i tried the previous time i was there (which is also priced at 45 K IDR++). Their 22 K IDR++ hot ginger house blend tea is also sharp and refreshing. The portions may seem meager at first glance, but imho it really hits the spot and it seems that the other participants of the meeting also enjoyed their Kecombrang chicken rice, the various lines of cool tea drinks, and their coffee. Thank you Mas @ahmad_ashov for the...
Read moreSamadengan is a newly open café located inside Kalibata-City, just next to the Kalibata-City Square Mall. You won't missed this place since it's so uniquely designed as a backyard garden cafe. This nice little place tuck away in the corner offers a fine coffee & tea and freshly cooked meals. The menu selections are quite varied, obviously coffee & tea and some other cold non alcoholic beverages and several types of salad, appetizers, mains, sandwiches & burger with homemade patty, and all day breakfast menu. My all time favorite would be piccolo for the coffee, vegetable spring roll for the snack, and avocado salad. But you should definitely try the homemade carrot cake, brownies, and banana caramel cake, it'll ruin your diet but it would be so worth it LOL. The staffs are super friendly, they memorize most of the name of the regulars always cheery. No wonder this place always filled with people hanging out especially on weekends and after office hours...
