After spending a considerable amount of time navigating the streets of Jalan Panjang in West Jakarta, I stumbled upon The Tanjung Seafood restaurant, a place I had never heard of before. Intrigued, I decided to dine there with my colleagues. We embarked on a culinary adventure, ordering a variety of dishes, including Ikan Sukang Asam Manis, Ikan Sukang Bakar, Kangkung, Kerang Hijau Saus Padang, Keong Macan Saus Padang, Cumi Saus Padang, Cumi Goreng Tepung, and Fu Yung Hai.
In terms of taste, the food at this establishment proved to be quite pleasing. While not exceptionally flavorful, it was comfortingly satisfying. To enhance our dining experience, we generously complemented each dish with a scoop of their delectable Sambal Terasi, which, although not overly spicy, exuded a delightful fragrance. Our culinary journey began with the seafood, all of which was remarkably fresh, devoid of any off-putting odors. The clams were tender and fresh, leaving nothing to be desired in terms of quality.
However, if I were to voice a complaint, it would be regarding the portion sizes. Some of the menu items came in disappointingly minuscule servings. For example, when we ordered Udang Goreng Mentega (no photo available), they served only five tiny shrimps, typically used as fried rice toppings, on a medium-sized plate. It seemed like some of the dishes were unjustifiably small in portion, not quite living up to expectations. That being said, the prices were reasonably matched with the flavors offered.
On the logistical front, parking was a bit of a challenge, with just a single row of parking in front of the restaurant. When contemplating a return visit for dinner, the diverse menu offerings are a compelling reason to revisit. However, I hope they refrain from surprising me with excessively tiny portions in...
Read moreToday's culinary adventure, guided by a gourmet friend, led me to a hidden gem nestled in a street. Whether it's a fine dining establishment or a humble street food stall, there's a certain warmth that unites them all. I've been incredibly fortunate these past two weeks.
Even though it's a local - popular restaurant, buy surprisingly it's uncrowded there, allowing us to savor the flavors in peace.
Google Images, while unremarkable, hinted at a place worthy of my time. With modest expectations, I stepped inside only to be greeted by a pleasant surprise.
This meal evoked fond memories. The chewy fried squid rings reminded me of my first bite of KFC popcorn chicken as a child. Back in the 90s, KFC was a novelty, as coveted and luxury as a new cellphone, television, or bicycle. My dad would only treat me to it as a reward for mastering a martial arts move.
The Padang-style stir-fried bamboo clams, on the other hand, transported me to a gourmet food store where I'd indulge in their seafood snacks. The fresh ingredients and rich sauce were a perfect match.
The pickled accompaniments were equally impressive, adding a refreshing touch to the slightly rich dish.
Today's culinary exploration has warmed my heart with a sense of nostalgia...
Read moreVery economic seafood place. The taste was above average and they have quite good varieties. Service was fast. The downside was the place, quite spacious but shabby. The floor and table could have smears of oil so it would be better to wipe it again. The bathroom really needs improvement. Parking lot is very...
