Warung Bija — Restaurant in Kecamatan Sidemen

We drove past this warung a couple of times during our stay in Sidemen, sadly we didn’t go until the last night. I hoped we found this place earlier because we would go back for sure. The owners of this place are friendly, welcoming, and will do everything in their powers to make sure everything is perfect for their guests. Especially the manly owner is super helpful and checks frequently to make sure everything is perfect. The food was outstanding, we both had the grilled chicken with mushroom sauce, vegetables and fries. This dish the best we had in Sidemen last couple days and even one of the best in whole of Indonesia. The food is prepared by his son and wife. This family business is a must visit for dinner when in Sidemen. The place is still quite new (1,5 months old) but has great potential in becoming one of the best. We ate here many times and the vegetarian food is excellent. Their tofu is incredible, and the family that owns, cooks, and serves are lovely.

Our only critiques are that the vegetarian curry was very small. It was so good, I wanted a full bowl of it! But I only ordered it once because they don’t give you much. Additionally, we asked for a cocktail without gula (sugar) and were assured that the mojito had none, but after tasting it, we inquired again and learned they use sprite, which obviously contains sugar.

The corner table at this cafe gives you a view of the mountains, paddy fields and narrow roads that wind through sidemen. The food is good. So are the freshly squeezed juices; accompanied by a bowl of chips (a nice surprise).

The server is the owner who told us the warong is eight months old. The family home is right behind the warong with six tables.
