I go to the shelter restaurant in pererenan often, and now have finally made it to their cafe in seminyak. A little difficult to find/park, but lots of staff outside to assist.
The food was great as you would expect.
The first time I came everything was great and gave a 5* review , but now I had to update my review to reflect my second time coming.
The problems added up, and then I understood the other negative reviews about service.
We sat and all ordered, the waitress confirmed the order with us, and then the food came and it was wrong.
They took it back and changed it so that’s not really the problem.
The problem came with the bill.
They charged us for the wrong food. I kept pointing out it was incorrect, the person running the register would talk to multiple waitstaff, and then come back saying no it’s correct.
It was basic math, they were up charging us for something we did not order and the receipt showed it, but she kept telling me that I WAS WRONG. Wild. It took about 5 minutes for her to then finally understand what was wrong and she took it off and reprinted the bill.
Then we saw they were overcharging us for water. The menu says 60k for large water, but in the abacus system they have it set as 72k. I run multiple restaurants in Bali, and I know abacus very well. So warning to all guests make sure you’re checking your bill as then I would assume they are overcharging everyone for their own personal greed.
She proceeded to tell me that they I could just pay 70k instead of 72k for the water and that’s fine….. when the price in menu is 60k! It felt never ending fighting with someone over the fact that they were overcharging us and them not wanting to change it.
In the end, after much headache and annoyance they finally got it right, 10 minutes, multiple conversations with everyone except me (the customer) and still fighting to get the correct price given to me.
As a message to the owner, I would say have a serious sit down with the staff and get them...
Read moreShelter is ok, surely overhyped. You can get better service, food at a better price in Seminyak. Lukewarm food and coffees. Very western.
How to find? Through the shop next to Nalu Bowls. May not find it on 'Shelter' via Grab. Service? Friendly but missing attentiveness (e.g. no sugar with coffee, not pouring water). There is a lot of staff. Food and drinks? The dishes are creative, but small and taste pretty average. The sourdough bread (with avocado) was toasted too long and tough to cut, the poached egg on the side was near cold. The honey baked granola bowl was ok. We missed smoothie bowls on the menu. Watermelon juice was out. Fresh fruit and pancake for kids was good. The menu offers a lot, you can have breakfast all day and lunch dishes as well. Our coffees were lukewarm... Price? Compared to similar restaurants, on the high end, most breakfast dishes cost close to 100K with additions. Coffee at 35K and juices at 45K. Decor is nice. Audience is tourists only, families, friends, mostly Australians following the hype (it seems)....
Read moreVery nice place to visit and enjoy some meal. Unfortunately not everything from the menu are really good. I took ricotta pancakes in my first visit and they were amazing! Second time I ordered Benedict eggs on toast. The toast was too hard and the knives weren't sharp enough to cut it, but taste of eggs and sauce was really nice. In my third visit I ordered hash browns with eggs and smoked salmon - it was total disaster. the hash browns were overcooked and dry to the point that they crunched unpleasantly on the teeth, the salmon was not fresh and dry on one side, as if it had been cut yesterday, the scrambled eggs were also not prepared in the best way. However, my friends' food was great and we were still satisfied with the atmosphere of the place. Maybe I was just unlucky last time with my order. P.S check carefully your food it can contain some surprises.
By the way, you should put a rat trap, because seeing a rodent running around the hall, which then hid behind the firewood of the bar counter, was also not...
