Malang is a city that loves its drizzle and cozy vibes, especially now that the rainy season is in full swing. I recently visited a small yet charming café nestled in the heart of the city.
The Cafe itself isn't large, but it has this cozy, vintage-modern charm that makes you feel right at home. With calm jazz music playing in the background, the atmosphere is serene and perfect for unwinding. It feels like visiting your parents' house, where everything is just right.
They offer a range of menu items, not just coffee. You'll find both European and Indonesian dishes, and they have a lovely selection of pastries too.
I recently tried a salmon salad with potatoes and oranges (named 'salmon orange salsa'), and it was an absolute delight. The flavors were spot-on, with the freshness of the salmon perfectly complemented by the creamy potatoes and the zesty burst of the oranges. Each bite was a mix of textures and tastes that made the dish feel both light and satisfying.
The presentation was also top-notch. The salad was beautifully arranged, with vibrant colors that made it look as good as it tasted. The portion size was just right, leaving me feeling full but not overly stuffed.
As for the price, I found at IDR 90k is quite reasonable for the quality and experience. It's a dish that feels like a treat without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a meal that's both delicious and beautifully presented, this salmon is definitely worth a try!
The service was impressive—friendly and efficient, delivered by a young and skilled team. The prices are pretty reasonable; nothing too extravagant but definitely worth every penny. What really stood out was the attention to detail and cleanliness. They have both smoking and non-smoking areas, and there's a big table for meetings (which I used during my visit). The WiFi is reliable and quite fast, which is a huge plus. Payment options are flexible, with both cashless and cash transactions available. Parking is ample with space for about 4-5 cars and plenty for motorcycles. They even have a clean prayer room and spotless,...
Read moreA great spot hidden in plain sight in the heart of Malang city. Onkel Jee offers various food and beverages ranging from Indonesian delicacies up to Western charm. We ordered a plate of Ayam Betutu and Passion Cream Bread. Ayam Betutu is marinated perfectly and easy to tear apart proving the meat has been tenderized and cooked well. The Balinese spice is paired with sambal matah and plecing kangkung. We wish the sambal to be a lot spicier and more drenched in coconut oil.
The passion cream bread is basically a thick french toast that is poured with passion fruit sauce and vanilla ice cream. The outer part is crispy, and its interior is very soft and milky. The acidity from the passion fruit balances the creaminess from the bread itself and the ice cream. A great dish for a quick brunch or tea time.
For the beverages, we ordered iced americano and iced cafe latte. Both are nicely made, eventhough do not offer any special characteristic.
The parking access is a little bit tricky especially if you come here with 4 wheels vehicle. Other than that, Onkel Jee is a must visit for those craving for comfort food as well as adventurous...
