Umami Cafe & Bakery — Restaurant in Mataram

The ambiance was nice, and since it was the grand opening, the cafe was pretty crowded. However, if you come in the afternoon, it is not that crowded compared to the evening occasion. The parking lot was spacious at the back of the cafe, with a small alley (only fit for one car) as the entrance. The layout made it possible to view the front yard of the restaurant without being blocked by cars (which is sometimes annoying, kudos to the architect!). We could choose to eat inside (with AC and a few tables) or outside (in the garden-like front yard with a summer-beachy vibe or the side of the parking lot entrance). The food was okay, I ordered the BBQ ham and cheese toast (the ham seemed smoked so the smoked taste was accentuated) but turned out to like the umami spicy chicken one chosen by my cousin. The umami balls were tasty, and my three-year-old daughter loved them and managed to finish two (out of six). The egg and cheese and crispy chicken toast were a bit bland for my cousins' liking. I highly recommend the umami spicy chicken toast and umami balls. Update: The umami balls were gone for good, which is saddening because I have a special place for them in my heart. Unfortunately, my experience at this place was quite disappointing. When I wanted to order, I was informed that rice dishes were no longer available, and only toast options remained. Potato-based snacks like fries or wedges were also sold out. Since I was very hungry, I ordered a toast.

The waiting time was quite long, although the place was very busy, and I understand delays can happen. It seemed like a new and popular spot, many guests were taking videos and looked very happy. However, for a toast, I expected quicker service.

The staff was very friendly, which I appreciated, but unfortunately, the toast itself didn't meet my expectations. The cheese looked like melted cheddar on the menu, but it turned out to be a thin, tasteless white slice that wasn’t even melted. While the toast looked great from the outside, the inner sides were quite dark (right on the edge of being burnt) and it tasted slightly burnt as well.

Waktu pertama kali ke sini, ambience tempatnya sangat hangat sekali, jadi terasa nyaman untuk nongkrong di sini. Tempatnya cukup luas, bisa milih duduk di area indoor atau outdoor & disediakan cukup banyak wastafel untuk cuci tangan ya. Cocok untuk jadi tempat hangout bersama teman maupun keluarga karena view tamannya bikin suasana jadi adem. Hanya saja kalau misal hujan & lagi ramai pengunjung mungkin bakal susah karena tempat duduk di area indoornya tidak banyak. Para staffnya sangat ramah & sabar melayani kalau customer bingung memilih menu. Semua menu yang ada di sini Halal ya, jadi aman buat teman-teman yang muslim. Di sini saya memesan Toast Tuna Mayo & Hot Greentea Latte. Untuk Toast Tuna Mayo-nya sangat saya suka karena tidak fishy, saus mayonnaisenya juga melimpah & manis gurihnya sangat dapat. Selain itu, roti toastnya lembut banget (sepertinya homemade) dan menurutku potongan rotinya besar ya, jadi terasa sangat kenyang setelah makan ini padahal niatnya cuma mau nyemil aja hahaha. Untuk minumannya yaitu Hot Greentea Latte, so so ya rasanya. Kebetulan saya datang pada malam hari, mungkin sekitar 1 jam mau closing jadi penyajiannya seperti pakai paper cup, hanya saja menurut saya agak ribet jadinya saat makan karena saus mayonnaise-nya lumer sampai keluar cupnya.
