Djoni/kun Grilled Fish — Restaurant in Padang

If you are a tourist visiting Padang City, I would recommend you to avoid going to this place. While we love Indonesia and all of its delicious warungs, the service there was horrible. By far the worst we've had in Indonesia. I spoke slowly some really comprehensible Bahasa Indonesia & they kept on making me repeat while laughing at me. Then, the girls stayed beside us and kept laughing and talking about us during the whole dinner. They also took pictures of us while we were eating (when they weren't talking about us being bules). The only good thing was the food itself, the fish was good! Overall, very bad experience, we are not just "foreigners" (bules), we are humans just like you. Please learn how to respect tourists!

The ikan bakar here is absolutely delicious! The fish is super fresh. We ordered the ikan bakar kicap manis and the santan version. Both were great, but the one with santan was especially amazing. You’ve got to try it.

The environment is pretty average and can get a bit hot and stuffy, as there are no fans and the kitchen smoke sometimes drifts into the dining area.

The price over here is more on the pricier side if compared to smaller hawker stalls. Anyhow, the food totally makes up for it—definitely...

Joni Kun ini aslinya nama orang pemiliknya yang biasa disebuy Joni atau Kun. 8 bersaudara yang mendirikan Ikan Bakar Joni / Kun ini. Yang 3 bersaudara di ikan bakar ini, yang 5 saudara mendirikan tempat makan Ikan Bakar Purnama. Tempat makan ini sudah berdiri sejak 20 tahun yang lalu. Berdiri diatas lahan milik PJKA (Kereta Api), cukup populer di sekitar Kota Padang sebagai tempat kuliner seafood. Menunya cujup beragam, sudah banyak dicicipi oleh berbagai kalangan dari mulai artis ataupun pejabat, semisal Mahfud MD, Marcelino Lefrandt, dan masih banyak lagi. Anehnya menurut pemiliknya, mereka enggan utk memajang foto artis atau pejabat yang sdh pernah makan disana, biarkan saja menyebar dari mulut ke mulut katanya. Kalau lagi rame sehari bisa menghabiskan ikan sampai 40-50 kg. Terutama bulan puasa. Rasa ikan bakarnya enak, harga tidak terlampau mahal. Hanya saja sedikit koreksi mengenai sajian minumannya terasa kurang nendang. Misalkan jeruk panas atau dingin, sepertinya terlalu datar. Mungkin kalau dibuat dari jeruk yang agak asem akan terasa lebih seger. Juga dengan minuman asem jawanya terasa kurang seger dan kadang terlalu manis.
