Read moreWent here on a slow breezy Monday afternoon. I expected it to be less crowded and no waiting line, oh well I apparently got disproven rather quickly. Apparently it gets more crowded around 5pm, so the earlier the less queue you'd get.
On the side of seatings and ambiance, I'll give it a 4.5/5. The seatings are mostly outdoor, fairly comfortable and the lighting setup on the evenings are very cozy (and as everything in Jogja, very "instagrammable"). I would like to spend some time sitting here on the evenings. The waiters are nice and responsive too!
Now the the main reason why I give this a 3 star is because of the foods itself. Why? Because I found that the cakes and pastries here are too sweet to my liking. Here's a review of each of the foods I ordered: -Strawberry Pie (Rp. 25k, 2/5): HUGELY underwhelming, or probably I expected too much (or maybe the combination of both). The biscuit was too hard and too sweet, the cream is way too sweet, and even the strawberry is less on the sour and yet again very sweet. Literally everything is too sweet and when eaten as one the flavor profile is just... Sweet. Couldn't even finish it. -Sebastian (Rp. 30k, 4/5): It's enjoyable, even if it tasted like a ton of milk and a teeny bit of cheese. Nothing very notable, it's just a cheesecake with a burnt top. -Danish and croissant (Rp. 18k, 3/5): Eh, too sweet. Not enough butter on the dough, or they probably used the less expensive and sweeter baker's mix, either its way too sweet to my liking. Wallah everything is way too sweet here. Can't find any comparable croissants here in Jogja but the one's I had in Levant Boulangerie in Jakarta were at least 3 times better and "only" 8k rupiah more. -Kurtoskalacs (Rp. 30k something, I forgot, 1/5): No. Way too soggy. Cold. That's all. Also the ones in Two Hands Full in Bandung is way nicer (and hot).
Personally, I wouldn't return here. But the place is lovely and if you're only looking for a comfortable break this is fine and priced fairly...
Read moreI arrived here at 7:30 AM for breakfast, and about 90% of the menu was already ready. Quite impressive considering they open so early.
I started with the baseline item I try at every bakeryâthe plain croissant. It was buttery, slightly sweet, and overall enjoyable. Texture-wise, I've had better, but it's still miles ahead of that copycat Crcls Bakery, and it's more affordable too.
The tourte was nice as well. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to taste like, but it reminded me of a high-quality zuppa soup, which I really enjoy.
The lemon tart was another highlight. It had a great balance of sweet, sour, and eggy flavors.
The coffee, however, was incredibly bitter and left a rather unpleasant aftertaste. Based on my experience brewing coffee at home, itâs likely because the espresso machine wasnât dialed in properly, resulting in burnt coffee.
The seating area is comfortableâclean and shaded, thanks to the many trees around. However, there were a few flies, which was a minor annoyance.
Service was friendly, quick, and polite. They even offer free mineral water and parking, which is super convenient.
Overall, Iâd definitely come back if Iâm in the area. Iâd love to try more items on the menu since itâs clear they know what theyâre doing with their bread. While it doesnât taste fully âauthentic,â the slight adjustments to suit the Indonesian palate are very welcome. I might steer clear of the coffee for now, but thatâs understandableâafter all, itâs Cinema Bakery, not...
