Best meal i’ve ever had in Cirebon. No scrap that, in the planet Earth. Going into the restaurant and seeing its exterior, I thought it was going to be a hot, blazing, boiling, scorching, sweltering, sizzling experience serving mid tier food. Bare in mind i came at mid day, 12.32pm to be exact with 35° celsius on the weather app showcasing cirebons scorching heat that day. It turned out a friend of mine had booked the AC room with no smoking. First of all AC room?! According to researchers an AC room in that type of outdoor restaurant is absolutely mental! And second of all, wow. Just wow. You can reserve seats here?? I’m sorry but I truthfully did not expect that level of 5 star service from here.

We were sat down in the middle of the AC area (no smoking) and were greeted by numerous pictures on the wall displaying the restaurant’s history dating back to about 1913 in Cirebon. Before Indonesia’s independence. Noticing that I knew this restaurant meant business. This restaurant was different and like no other. This restaurant had tradition running in its veins. I was starting to like it even more.

Straight away after seating, a friend of mine who has been here before ordered 4 empal gentongs without even asking for the menu, as well as Beef skewers as the side dish. Left, right, and center other people were also getting seated and straight away asked for empal gentongs. Despite it stating empal gentong obviously in the restaurant’s name, this truly amazed me. This screamed culture.

Food came it was time to feast. I had one empal gentong and 2 shared plates of beef skewer between 4 people. It turned out what lacked in aesthetics thrived in flavor. THIS WAS THE BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER FELT IN BETWEEN ME LIPS! I was chewing the soft beef empal gentong and all the flavors, cultures, traditions, heritage, everything-and i mean everything-I tasted in that piece of beef.

I have to say, I recommend this restaurant...

Wow.... This is the first time I try Empal Gentong in their original place, Cirebon (last time I tried it when I visit Bandung). It's totally different, soooo delicious. It's been a long time since I have such a delicious food to taste, this is really really delicious. The price just Rp 23,000 for that delicious food, what the... Other food you could try is Nasi Lengko (if you feel that Empal Gentong with rice is not enough to fulfill your stomach :) or you could also try Empal Asem (Empal gentong without coconut sauce/santan). They also have satay and it's quite nice.

The place has AC place and non AC place for you the smoker one :)
