Our first time at Connolly's. The food was phenomenal; the seafood chowder was mesmerising; creamy, tasty, dreamy. The sandwich was wonderful, much tasty (but not superimposing any other components) cheese and wonderful honey-glazed ham, with a huge(!) side salad with all sorts of fresh salad and seeds; simply awesome. The garlic bread was large and heavily loaded with garlic (but not too oily, something that many cooks don't manage). The cider was completely new to us, it was so good that my wife drank almost all of it and even I liked it (and I despise alcoholic taste completely). The service was wonderful as well. We were very kindly asked to wait for a few moments, but after ten seconds we were led upstairs. The keeper was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. His explanations about their choice of ciders reminded me of some really good wine sommelier. Service staff was helpful, friendly, smiling, and fast. They strive to support local businesses and organic growth, they are proud of it, and they are right to be in my opinion. That's 100% worth every single cent that the components may be more expensive than in other eating places; personally I 100% trust them in their endeavours to provide healthy good food this way. One of our best experiences in almost 30 years of vacation in Ireland. Recommended without any restraint. Looking forward to visiting you again next year. Please keep...
Read moreAfter a long drive from Cork to the Cliffs, and exploring the Cliffs, we needed a place to grab lunch before the three-hour drive to Dublin. We found Connolly's Pub in the nearby town of Kinvara, so we stopped in. It was a super late lunch (around 3:30 on a Wednesday), so there weren't too many people dining at the time - just a few people having some drinks outside.
There weren't too many items on the menu, which I liked. That usually means that the ingredients are fresh (since they don't have to order so many different things) and that they do these few dishes well. All the menu items sounded really good. They were like traditional Irish pub fare but with an updated twist. We had the Connolly's Panko & Herb-Crumbed Fish & Chips (Pickled Vegetable Salad, Coleslaw, Tartare Sauce) and the Black Angus Rib-Eye Burger and Chips (Brioche Bun, Crispy Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Mustard Mayo, Coleslaw). The fish was perfectly fried yet it still tasted very light, without being too oily. The burger was nice too. However, you can't order it medium rare for food safety reasons - you can only order it well-done. And even then, it was still very good.
Although simple, I would say that this might be one of the best meals we had in Ireland! It was very comforting and a perfect break from a long...
Read moreMyself and my partner just came back from a meal in Conolly’s. I have to say hands down it was the best meal I’ve eaten out from the moment we stepped in we were welcomed by very friendly waiters , the interior was really nice , I love the open kitchen we’re we could see the cooking being done, I I loved the lighting the chairs were really comfortable, and the stone walls were really authentic. The flowers on the table were a special touch. The food was simply amazing fresh local ingredients cooked to a really high standard, I had the salmon crab salad and pickled org vegetables which complimented the dish perfectly, i then had black sole on the bone which was. Cooked to perfection accompanied by gorgouse butter potatoes and roasted vegetables cooked to perfection again they were cooked in a way that there natural sweetness came out . My dinner was finished with a divine blackberry parfaits with local honey . My partner had the beef dinner which was cooked on the fire which brought a lovely crisp skin on the beef and had a lovely smoky flavour from the fire . We will definitely be back....
