Gooseberry Cafe — Restaurant in County Longford

"Lovely staff, but the fish was playing hide and seek."

Popped into Gooseberry Café in Longford, it was really nice setup, great spot for coffee, cake, and sandwiches. Staff were lovely too.

But I ordered the fish and chips special and honestly… the “fish” must’ve gotten stage fright. For €15 I was expecting something a bit more substantial , not a lonely strip that looked like it was just keeping the chips company. Bonus disappointment: it was on the dry side. I did raise it with the waitress, but just got a nervous laugh.

Chips were grand, the salad was colourful, and the presentation was good. But if you're after a hot meal that fills you, I’d stick to the cold menu or cakes.

Would I come back? Absolutely , americano and a slice of something sweet. But not for hot food at that price for a tiny piece...

If you’re in Longford, I’d highly recommend Gooseberry Cafe. Had lunch here and it’s just a super little hidden gem of a place. Food was beautifully presented fresh and tasted great. I opted for the Club sandwich on brown bread and cappuccino and both were absolutely delicious. The menu was well presented and had plenty of delicious options to choose from. Staff were a credit to this establishment too. Friendly, attentive and caring. Plenty of pride and passion in the workplace. The decor of the cafe is clean fresh and pleasant. This was the second time I visited this cafe. The food and service were lovely. On the previous occasion, about a month ago, I mentioned to a member of staff that it would be good to cover the scones and pastries on display beside the order/pay area. On my visit today, I noticed they were still exposed to the elements. Germs from coughing and sneezing, flies and other air borne insects could land on the beautiful pastries and scones. It is also possible for customers to actually handle the products. I was disappointed that my suggestion wasn't taken on board and acted upon.
