This review is so belated that it’s practically criminal. We had occasion to spend a couple of days in Sligo in July of 2022, as we made our way up the west of Ireland and into Scotland. We were in town too early to check into our hotel and wanted to find a place to watch Wimbledon. No place was open! Eventually Austies opened and boy, did they make us feel right at home. The bartender directed us to the large back room, with the wide screen tv and located the correct channel for us. And from that point on, we had an absolute blast. Only problem was, the kitchen was closed on that one particular day of the week and we were feeling a bit starved and a wee bit trashed. Enter Lorna, the lovely owner, who made us a grand meal and managed to make us feel even more at home than we already had felt. We spent most of the next afternoon there, as well, as we just knew we wouldn’t find a cozier, more welcoming spot anywhere else in town. Thank you, Lorna, for all of your kindnesses from two very grateful women in America.

It's been years since we have been here, and oh boy, it was so worth revisiting. The atmosphere is so relaxing. The staff were friendly and attentive and a credit to the place. We had planned on just having a mains, but the menu was so tempting we had a starter, too. Every thing came out looking and smelling amazing and tasted even better. My daughter and I had the salt and chilli prawns for starter, and my husband had the Chowder. Both were amazing. I had the seafood linguine for mains, and it was stuffed with seafood. My husband had the fish and chips, everything was so well seasoned that you didn't even need to add salt to the chips. My daughter had the chicken burger, and the chilli lime mayo on the burger was genius. We all left very full as the portions are generous. We all enjoyed our visit, from the food, the staff and the view it really was a lovely experience.

I haven’t been here for a few years and had forgotten how good this little gem of a bar and restaurant is. Everything about our visit was lovely. Lovely location with fantastic views. Lovely food and drink Lovely friendly staff That should say it all and I would highly recommend Austies to anyone. As value for money goes I would say it’s on par with most gastro pubs now. We had starters and mains with drinks and it came to €103. I know that’s a lot but that is the price you pay nowadays. The quality is top notch so at least you can see and more importantly taste where your hard earned money goes. You can park for free outside and it has a lovely large outside seating area which was very popular with people with dogs having a drink and something to eat. Looking forward to my next visit.

Half way through our drinks and we wanted to order food. I asked a guy at the bar if we could take it away, he said no problem and gave me a menu. Came back to the bar to order and what I assume was the Manager asked if I was OK. I said I wanted to order food to takeaway and she said no, the kitchen was too busy. I said the bar man told me it would be fine (what difference would it make if we sat in and ate, or took it away?). She said she would go and ask the kitchen. Meanwhile people walked in and were seated for food no bother, kitchen wasn't too busy for them? I stood for 10 minutes as she walked past me 4 times, completely ignoring me. Not an acknowledgement or reassurance that she would be right with me, that she hadn't forgot about me. The bar man looked abit embarrassed at her complete disregard for me so when she walked past a 5th time he stopped her and asked if I was able to takeaway or not, she leaned over to me with utter anger and hissed 'Can't you see I am busy?'. I was completely embarrassed, shocked and nearly teared up to be honest. I walked back outside to finish my drink. She returned 5mins later and, with no apology, asked me what I wanted and the kitchen would 'do their best to fast track it'. I politely declined with a no thank you, it's fine. Never in all my years dining out have I been spoken to like that or made to feel like a nuisance. As a paying customer, I should have been treated with respect no matter how busy or stressed out she was. Unprofessional, rude, and a complete stain on an otherwise friendly and nice...

Hottest day of the year - Naturally a great buss around the area - rosses point . I stopped by for quick bite after swimming all day , staff bar one lovely young guy acknowledged me and said someone will be with me , others just zoomed past , owner appears all business ,like she is running the White House - lots of spare tables - a very tricky character , pushy , slight aggression masked by a fake smile .

Part of eating out - is always the atmosphere , presence of calm and positivity . The owner, she continued to be in this young guy back , so aggressive “be faster , how long have you being doing this , faster faster “ she was shy of grabbing his arm and pushing him to make him Faster . I actually recommended the staff to speak up or walk . Reminder that the place wasn’t full, more disorganised. By the owner . I sene many people roll their eyes and leave with her attitude. Cesear salad was standard - chicken felt re heated in a microwave wave . Waited ages for my drink . Got it towards the end of my meal . All in all I was hungry - needed a quick stop before I headed onwards - didn’t make my day memorable , but the owner wow - cop on to yourself . Maybe don’t be on the floor if you can’t handle a medium busy day - make sure staff are waitress - and if you want speed train - but you don’t have the right to speak to another human the way you are . Passive aggressive- embarrassing them infront...

Update 01-Sep: I have been driving by the pub often recently and seeing that it’s almost empty every time - even on very sunny days - shows that I was probably not the only disappointed customer.

Overall a pretty disappointing experience unfortunately. First we were asked to wait for a table only to see that people who came after us (without a reservation) got a table before us. The food is just not good enough. Salad not fresh, calamari was fine but way overpriced for that little portion. Burger was ok but not good enough for €16 - no proper seasoning, just a lot of meat. The chicken wings are dry and not tender at all but loaded with barbecue sauce that tastes awful. Only the chips were decent. It seems like all the food is just frozen food thrown in the deep frier. When complaining about the chicken wings the manager argued with us rather than taking our feedback and mentioned “that’s the Irish taste” - which professional would say that to foreign customers?! The cherry on the cake although is the restroom which smells like a train station toilet and doesn’t even have soap - which is funny as the restaurant just opened again after COVID the day before. We will not come back here and advise anyone to think twice before eating here. Everyone knows that the restroom is usually a reflection of the overall hygiene so better stay away...
