Maximilians Bistro — Restaurant in Fingal

I have been a regular customer at this restaurant for many many years, and would’ve never dreamed of posting a negative review but my last few experiences are the reason that this was the last time I will ever enter this establishment. The last few times have been marred by the serving staff, in particular the mother/daughter duo that work together. Unfortunately we never got their names, so I will refer to them as the mother or the daughter. Long before these two people worked here, myself and my wife were quite accustomed to the menu, and off menu items. The first time we had an interaction with the mother, we asked for crab claws (off menu item). To which she replied, this is not on the menu and we do not serve this, but funnily enough my wife’s brother was at the restaurant at the same time and had a full plate of crab claws in front of him. We called the owner over as we know him to see, and he assured us that he would get this to us as soon as possible. For the rest of the evening, the mother made snarky comments about the fact she refused us this dish. We let this go, and within a few weeks we were back again. Again, the mother thought it was appropriate to come over to us and condescendingly ask if we wanted crab claws, and just had an attitude in general when coming towards our table. The last time was the last straw. We arrived for our booking, as a family, kids and all. We were seated, and for some reason the daughter thought it was appropriate to bump off of my seat every time she walked passed me. During our meal we were asked to move to another table to accommodate another set of customers that had arrived, much to me and my family’s displeasure. After we moved the daughter still found a way to bump off of my chair quite regularly, it was almost as if she was purposely doing it. Myself and my wife then stepped outside for a moment to get some air, my wife was not finished with her food, yet the daughter came over and started clearing the table and placed dirty napkins onto my wife’s plate of food. When she realised that my daughters were watching her doing this, she then proceeded to take the used napkins out of the food, and left it there as if nothing had happened. When we brought this to the maitre d’s attention, we were offered an espresso! Then the mother came over and pleaded with us not leave a negative review about her or her daughter. Firstly, let me start by saying, the food is exceptionally good. I had the Cajun Chicken Pizza and my partner had the Spinach Cannelloni. Both excellent...

However the issues were much with the service. The server took our order around 20 minutes after seating. We ordered:

Cajun Chicken Pizza Spinach Cannelloni Fries Garlic Bread 1 Fanta and Water

Nothing was written, which surprised me at the time. When our food arrived, I got my pizza and a fries for the table. However from partner was served a chicken dish (she is vegetarian). Plenty of apologies when pointed out. Partner was given a free Fanta as an apology

We waited for another 30 mins for the Cannelloni (garlic bread never came). Food again, was exceptional.

When the bill came, the incorrect dish (chicken) was on it, as was the missing garlic bread

When pointed out, we again had apologies and were told the chicken dish was the same price (it wasn't, I asked for a menu and pointed it out). The garlic bread was struck off the menu and a new total was written on the receipt. The maths was wrong and we were still being charged more.

At the end. I had to ask for a redone receipt to avoid being charged more than we were actually received.

This restaurant and its facilities is brilliant in all aspects. We had our Christening lunch in Maximilian’s Bistro few weeks ago. From the beginning on, when organising the event, everything was dealt with high professionalism and high standards. They are very experienced for group bookings and events like Christening, we got useful and great advice from Massimo, the manager, in relation to the menu, practicability , food and wine choices /set up of space. They are very customer orientated and flexible, very accommodating with the dishes to tailor for my invited guests! Wonderful ideas as well for the layout of the Christening Menu We had a lovely cosy compartment/section and were set up really comfortably. Everything ran smoothly, food and drinks came out quickly. The whole afternoon was so pleasant, all the staff is very nice and helpful, Ana looked after our group so well. Most important of all: the food is really delicious, very tasty and great choice! Our guests left as happy as we could make them. I have been enjoying meals there now for many, many years. There is great variety and very good value with their specials! Thank you so very much...
