It's old but still gold, in some ways(esp compared to other gastro pubs). Had not been in years but it did used to be better. Still acceptable but lost its mad busy and bustling atmosphere and homey smell n charm. However gravy still delicious. I wish they were more busy so the food sold quicker for them, otherwise u may get dried up stuff. (U can see some dishes with cold layer of thickened sauce on top, as untouched...). I feel it's a shame. I don't even think they over roast their beef but if left sitting in oven or keep warm, it does not be like the moist succulent roasts I grew up loving. Plus the carving was not great they weren't slices at all, not even thin (versus thick) they were all small bits n clumps??obviously still eaten but presentation was nothg like how it used to be. They possibly give u less rice coz they don't want to go and cook more??(Only wanted rice n cabbage n the rice was half the amt of the cabbage!). Also only asked for chips n carrots for a diff dish n said a few carrots only, but got way more carrots than chips?!?! Can get half portions thankfully (12e approx) as full ones over 17e (depending on choice). Nice ppl but not as friendly as when I used to go regularly so another bit of sadness. We moved away from Dublin to a diff county. We only went as we had a graduation in Helix and didn't want to go back towards city centre due to traffic etc. I don't know if I would deliberately go back but it was kind of nice as we hadn't been in so long...I wish overall we had a better experience. But Everyone should at least have eaten lunch here once. Ppl do need to try to know for themselves and be able to say at least they tried before, imo. I would hate to see it...
Read moreI’ve been a regular to the Coachmans for many years. I always enjoyed the good food and on occasions a pint or two. It is great to see the bars and restaurants open again after a long time been closed. But today I was saddened by the way my son and myself were treated by a member of staff who I don’t know , but apparently his name is Lenny Doyle. I went into the restaurant to use the toilet facilities and as I was going to order food from this employee Lenny who was at the cash desk. The first think he said was where are your masks lads. I explained that myself and my son are exempt. He insisted on seeing proof of exemption. I told him that under the government guidelines he was not allowed asked me for proof. But no problem I would show him my exempt form. At this stage he was getting aggressive. I went outside to my car to get get my form. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it as I had left it at home. But I got my son at home to send me a photo of it on WhatsApp. When I went back to show Lenny the proof he asked for. He refused to accept it. I don’t think I will ever visit this...
Read moreI stumbled upon this crowd en route back to B+B after me pre-flight Covid test at Dublin airport, and so glad I did. The perfect pint of Guinness and the chap on the bar in black shirt, tie and Gregory Pecks very friendly, and lightning efficient. I saw loads of people leaving the carvery bar, but being vegetarian didnae give it a look in.
This evening mind, stopped in again for a pint and see a lady going by with Yorkshire Pudds. I was all over it then and learned one could have whatever they so desired. It was THE best plate of food I’ve had since me Mam did Christmas dinner for me four years since. Amazing gravy, and I was leaking in tongues and in religious ecstasy over the roast spuds and mash.
You couldn’t fault it. The venue itself is lovely inside with its woodwork, homely feel and cleanliness. Felt very much in comfort and decadently full on a delicious dinner and smashing drink in a very...
