Off The Bone Gastropub — Restaurant in Limerick

We booked our table based on the social media posts about a unique steak experience with live jazz and wine pairings. This wasn’t exactly delivered.

When we arrived we stood in a long queue despite having a reservation. The couple in front of us had no reservation but were seated at a table in front of the saxophone player. Myself and my partner were instead sat at a table literally at the host desk where my chair was knocked against EVERY SINGLE TIME someone came through the door. I constantly felt in the way and could not relax.

Due to our position, at a table where no one should be sat on such a busy evening, our service was interminably slow.

We were then surprised to see there was no special Valentine’s Day menu offered and instead it was just the standard full menu (more expensive than the last “steak experience” advertised on your socials.

When our starters came out, my partner’s mussels were served with one tiny piece of bread - no butter offered, and worse again, no spoon for the broth.

Our steak took over 45 minutes to come out. When it did it was brought out table side by the chef who greeted us with the phrase “I hate doing special Valentine’s Day menus”. This seemed to line up with what our waiter told us about the special event menu being cancelled last minute- leading to all the confusion. Not ideal. He sliced our steaks and as he played it told us “oh, it’s a bit more done than it should be”. Our steak was incredibly overcooked.

We ordered desert. My partner’s arrived and had his eaten by the time my desert cocktail came out.

We paid 200€ for overcooked steak and to be jostled by strangers all night as they pushed past our chairs.

All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. The staff seemed completely overwhelmed and stressed out the whole night. We were sat at the worst table in the house. And all in all, it wasn’t quite the experience we signed up for based on your social posts.

Avoid at all costs ! Really poor service !! You will find better & cheaper food if you travel further into the city !!! Went in for lunch, maybe 3 other people in there before us , thought we would get served quickly . Sat down, had 3 minutes to think about what we would like, that was fine, got my drink & that was fine as well ... But then we were waiting nearly 40 minutes before the waitress asked us did we not get our food yet. Fair enough if the place was busy with customers & their was multiple staff on I would understand that an order might get lost along the way to the kitchen but when you have very little customers it shouldn't be that hard to remember if a customer got their food yet or not especially if your in & out from the bar area near customers . Apparently the food didn't go through the system so then we had to wait another 15 minutes . So after 55 minutes we eventually got our food but my steak was half cooked & the rest was RAW ! I had to go up to the bar to return it cause the waitress was hiding behind the bar & didn't bother asking any customer was everything okay . Advice for management !! Had a fantastic visit here last week with my partner. We decided to go out for dinner on a Thursday evening and wanted to stay out of the city centre and here popped to mind. It had been a few years since I was here but I remember it was brilliant that time also. Greeted by a manager by the name of Stefan on arrival and were shown to our seats and he explained that Jasmine would be looking after us. She came and introduced herself and took our drinks order while we were viewing the menu. We went with a starter and main option, so in short the four dishes we got were the Spicy Wings and Bruchetta to start and they were followed by the Black Angus Burger and the Fish And Chip. And yes, these are simple options but alot of places get the simple dishes wrong. All four meals were just spot on, that Black Angus Burger is just packed with flavour and you could smell that the fish was proper fresh. Both Stefan and Jasmine popped by to check on us and made sure we wanted for nothing. Very professional and attentive.
