Great setting, average food, calling it edible would be fair. (The meal I had was comparable to a decent supermarket frozen dinner.) Rude and unhelpful staff. Carlingford is a very busy tourist village and this establishment is a victim of Carlingford’s success. In trying to maximize turnover they have sacrificed standards. Great for them, not so good for the customers. Would not go back.
One week later: I read with interest the owners response, where she attempts to discredit my review by suggesting that my behaviour was at fault, whilst making no mention of my initial complaint. Her vague suggestion that ‘other customers were horrified ‘ is unfounded, untrue and easily discredited. Claire, you have CCTV. I invite you to show it, if it demonstrates your accusation I shall apologize immediately, however should you choose not to prove your false accusations by showing the footage, I shall consider it further proof that you made it all up to cover your understandable embarrassment, and expect an apology. Oh, and Claire ? Printing lies is libelous...
Read moreAfter a long day hiking on Slieve Foy we were delighted to eat here. The staff were warm and friendly and we had a lovely table. The Caesar salad to start was perfect. 5 stars. The Sirloin that followed was a little more toward well done than the ordered medium; and slightly dry and tough (Barely any trace of pink noticeable in it). I should have ordered medium rare. It was good food though, just not exceptional food so pricey enough. Took a tiny bit too long to clear the main and ask for the bill when we were finished food. Took too long then for that bill to arrive (waitress did apologise though). After the bill arrived it took too long to pay - I had to flag someone. 3 people behind the bar chatting and restaurants not busy yet. A very small gripe and I only mention it constructively to draw attention to the experience being as important as the food in a restaurant like this. Staff were very nice and professional and I don't want to sound too...

Had a lovely dinner at Kingfisher Bistro in Carlingford. Small, intimate gourmet restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff. We ordered a starter of leek and potato soup with a side of fresh baguette baked in a woodfire oven - yum! We ordered the Duo Duck and it was the best duck either of us ever had! A breast and a thigh, tender and not fatty, with the skin crispy and nicely seasoned, in a bed of baby green beans just cooked to crunchy tenderness, and a side of hearty mashed potatoes. Also ordered a sirloin steak cooked to medium rare perfection with a delectable peppercorn and mushroom cream sauce and a side of boiled baby potatoes seasoned with butter, parsley, and garlic. Topped dinner off by sharing a hazelnut brownie with vanilla ice cream - so good! Chock full of crushed hazelnuts, a touch of raspberries, and made with dark cocoa - delicious! Definitely recommend...
