This is not fine dining. Sat in a chair that was stained. Then forgotten by the waitress, no water offered. Our starters were fine, that's it. Monkfish goyjouns were tasty but presented like a 1970s hotel with a jar of sauce and a bit of lettuce. My girlfriend had the mussels which were really tasty. The mains were a different story. I ordered steak with pepper sauce, rare. At 39 euros I expected this to be some steak. It was medium to well done and the pepper sauce was just gravy. My girlfriend had chicken which was bland and boring. Thr gratin potato was reheated as it was hotter than the sun. We had several different waiters and waitress so even if we wanted to complain there and then what's the point. The place had two large parties and seem to be catering for hens more than couples. I really cannot believe how this has a 4.6 ratings on Google. We ate in the pub down the road PJs and we're treated better and ate better for half the money. This place is a ripoff. Avoid

We’ve been going to Conor for a few years now and wouldn’t go anywhere else. We stay at the guesthouse in their gorgeous rooms (ours was recently renovated with a beautiful new bathroom) and we eat and drink there for a few days - everything is first class. During lockdown, Conor and team sculpted an amazing back garden al fresco area with bar, / dining / terraced seating and heating and barbeque / pizza area and frankly it’s stunning! I’d describe it as like being invited to a family gathering and on the night I was out there, Conor was mingling and making sure all are kept entertained. I would totally recommend dropping in and asking if there’s space in the back garden to eat if you haven’t booked the traditional restaurant - you’ll be getting the same food from the restaurant kitchen…

Very good restaurant and B&B. One the best restaurants in the area. There is also cosy bar in backyard. Wine list in the restaurant is great as the team select and taste themselves, great selection! Very warm welcoming and hospitality by the team will make feel not like at restaurant, but as guest at very cosy home. Menu is also great, good selection of seafood dishes as well as light bites. This place is definitely to add to your list when you are here for weekend, making a stop on your trip, or visiting Carlingford. Thank you very mush to the team of the The Bay Tree for excellent lunch and very war welcome!

Easily the worst accommodation experience of my life! Owner & her husband were 2 of the rudest, obnoxious & arrogant people I've ever met. My wife & I checked in around 2:30pm & were given 2 keys. Room was small, outdated with uncomfortable chairs. We left to attend a wedding. We decided to take just 1 of the 2 keys rather than both as we didn't need 2 keys knowing we would return together later that evening. We returned at around 1am. It immediately became apparent that there was no staff member serving at the bar or visible through the door or window despite lights being on & we suddenly realised why we were given two keys at arrival. There was an exterior door requiring a different key from our room key which we obviously didn't have because we only took 1 key. At this point we felt silly for not taking the other key but annoyed a little that it hadn't been explained the importance of the other key. We knocked the door in the hope that the owner lived there but no one appeared. We then noticed a list of telephone numbers on the wall outside. I phoned the 1st one which didn't work & then the 2nd one. This was answered by a women who identified herself as the owner & I began to explain we were staying at her accommodation but didn't realise we needed both keys. She began to argue with me & give a rather foul mouthed rant about waking her up & how stupid I was. I was in total disbelief at the way she spoke to me & said she could spend her time arguing with me or she could help me get into the accommodation & at that point she hung up. I then rang the other mobile number again & the owners wife answered. He sounded fed up when I explained what happened & said to me: "You do know it's one o'clock in the morning? You've woken me up & got me out of bed! I apologised but at this stage was getting upset that we were out in the street in the dark in a strange place & getting abuse on the phone by people who should be making you feel welcome. The owners husband then hung up too and we still didn't know what to do? About 10 minutes later a car pulled up and a lady got out, she rather quickly approached me & got right up in my face wagging her finger & began to tell me off like I was a child! A very bizarre situation at 1 o'clock in the morning! I said I'm sorry but I didn't know we needed both keys. Her next comment is one I'll never forget! She screamed at me in a really sarcastic tone: "Oh you didn't know to take the two keys! Well do you need me to tell you then? If you needed to use the toilet do I need to be there to tell you how to drop your trousers & pants in order to take a s**t!" At this point both myself & my wife were in total shock that this was what was actually being said to us. She opened the external door & continued to mock us all the way up the stairs to our room! When we got into the room she quickly left. I suddenly realised I had to phone her husband back to explain she had let us in as it appeared they hadn't spoken to each other & I didn't want him coming out too after his wife had sorted the problem. I rang & his first words were: "So now you've got my wife involved! Why did you ring my wife you had no right to ring her!" he again hung up the phone before I could say a word. It was this point we both decided we couldn't stay in the accommodation after that as he appeared angry as did his wife & in truth we felt very unwelcome & a little afraid. We exited our room. Once outside & with nowhere to go it looked like the local park bench was going to be our room for the night until our wedding friends rang & said that their wedding venue Ghan House had a spare room. I have been out £99 for Belvedere House & £160 for Ghan House. I hope those considering staying here will think twice after reading about our experience & save themselves a nightmare trip to Carlingford which is a really nice part of Ireland & doesn't deserve to have accommodation owners bringing down the areas friendliness with their...

As a party of 20, my employer took us all to Carlingford for a well deserved night away, it was my task to find the perfect restaurant to cater for 20 very fussy foodies! after reading such fab reviews I knew The Bay Tree Restaurant had to be the venue of choice. We had the most amazing time from start to finish, I was in close communication with Liz prior to our arrival, she was nothing but fantastic with her communication and support. As we had a few veggies and fussy eaters(you know the type!!) The Bay Tree catered to our every request. On arrival we were great by Liz and the owner Conor, with a warm and friendly reception I just knew this was going to be a great night! As a party of 20 you can imagine the drink was flowing the the bellies were hungry, the staff in The Bay Tree went over and beyond to make sure our glasses were full and the cocktails were flowing.

The Food!!! Well what can I say....The chicken wings were a HUGE hit! Many chicken wing fanatics in the group and the feedback was 10/10 "the best wings I've ever tasted". I had such food envy of other plates and luckily most were willing to share a taste of each dish. If you aren't a wings person, I personally had the Crispy Duck samosa and it was delicious!

For mains the Pan Fried Hake and Slow cooked pork belly were huge hits and equally delicious! The atmosphere in this beautiful restaurant was fantastic, they even have an outside beer garden terrace with great heating if you want to sit outside and relax after your meal. I can say without bias this restaurant is far ahead of most Michelan restaurants in Belfast and I can see why its Michelin recognised but think it needs a star pronto!! Thank you Conor, Liz and all the staff at the Baytree for an amazing experience, I will definitely...

We are an Iralian choir 'Coro Italiano di Dublino' and were invited to sing at our Conductor's wedding on Saturday 31st August in Newry. We combined the special occassion with a stay over in lovely Carlingford. Due to our numbers we were booked into a number of different accommodatioon providers. We got a recommendation from the bride that The Bay Tree would be a good place to dine on the night. I duly booked a private room for 30 guests and we were not disappointed. It was simply an unforgetable evening, we started with a champagne reception (compliments of our beautiful bride) followed by a three course delicious meal. (well done to the chef on the night). We had several choices from each course which was wide and varied. The courteous staff could not have been more helpful and no request was too much. We sang and partied into the early hours. Let me compliment the owner for running his business so efficiently and to such a high standard. We have a woindeful evening. ...
