5 stars won’t cut it. A 5-star rating doesn’t do justice to Ubippo Osteria, simply because it’s not a business, it’s a family. A family that opened their doors for anyone willing to share moments of joy with them. I can understand that one might look for photos, prices, food quality, service quality, and other details. Once you’ve been there, it seems almost futile to discuss them, because, at least for us, everything was perfect. In fact, I tried to think about something that was not quite how I would’ve wanted it to be, something that would bring realism to this review in the eyes of a stranger reading it. The truth is I was stupid in trying to do so. How could you find flaws for an experience that constantly exceeded your expectations? Let me fill you in on what I’m talking about here. You know you’re in the right place when the “staff” (a.k.a. Adriana, Oreste, and their absolutely exceptional family – for real now, it’s like you’re reading it in a book or seeing it in a movie – they’re true role-models) not only treat you with a profound respect and natural hospitality, they are genuinely happy when they succeed in attending all of your needs (believe me, it doesn’t take long for one to be surprised by it). You also know you’re in the right place when you learn that everything is being done in the family: all of the ingredients of your food can be traced either to the garden that’s 10 meters aways from you, or to the one of a family member/family friend, who has a centenary tradition of producing that ingredient in the most authentic way. And you know you’re in the right place when, in addition to the uncommonly pleasant ambiance, you get the chance to transcend into the local way of living, into different times in history, or into a place that can easily become your psychological happy place when needed. Don’t get me wrong, even if they do everything in the family, I’ve never seen so much dedication, so much professionalism, and so much passion put into the day-to-day work, as I’ve witnessed there. One evening, the youngest child in the family came and explained to us what we’re about to eat (we were having a traditional Cilentan plateau, filled with mind-blowingly delicious food) and he put so much patos into it, everyone at the restaurant just stopped eating, cut their conversations short, closed the calls they were in and they were listening to this formidable young man taking me and my spouse through a journey into the Cilentan gastronomical culture. And this is just an example. Over the years, this family gained a level of competence that you meet at any fine dining restaurant. They know perfectly what to recommend for the flavors to make you forget who you are and where you come from, they read the tables and the ‘room’ perfectly and coming to interact with you or recommend your next move at an absolute perfect timing, their politeness is sincere, their joy when they see you happy is so heartwarming that you don’t want to live that place. And the food, my friends, is beyond good. We stayed 8 days in Italy and visited at least 2 restaurants per day on top of Ubippo. Some of them more ‘pretentious’. In all honesty, I can tell you that we were always rushing to finish of so that we can get back to them, because none of the other restaurants even came close. I want to close with the fact that I’m extremely careful and selective when it comes to what I eat, where and how. Being a diabetic for more than 16 years, I’ve learnt to pay attention to the tiniest details of what’s in front of me, calculating nutritional values mentally and not forgiving any slip when it comes to hygiene. I never trusted a place more than my home, until we went to Ubippo, where they paid attention to everything in such detail, that I would’ve been willing to put my life in their hands blind-folded without any...

I’ve taken my time writing this review — partly because I’ve struggled to find the right words to capture the Ubbipo experience, and partly because it might be the best-kept secret in Italy… and I’m not sure I want to share it. 😉

But honestly? It’s too good not to share. So here we are.

I grew up being fed by a nonna (Italian Grandma) of my own, and this meal brought me right back to her table. For that, I can’t thank Adriana, Nonna, and the whole family enough.

From the moment we arrived, Adriana — our gracious and impeccable host — greeted each of us by name and made us feel like guests in her home. As we watched the sun set over the hills, we were served homemade taralli and cocktails crafted with playful precision (mine came with a macaroni straw I still haven’t gotten over). The warmth from our hosts spread through the group, and we quickly found ourselves chatting like old friends with the other diners.

Just a few beautifully set tables fill the intimate outdoor space, softly lit to create a relaxed, welcoming ambiance — the perfect backdrop for the slow-food dishes that Nonna prepares. With each course, Adriana explained the origin of the ingredients (most from their land or nearby farms), described the preparation, and shared sweet, personal stories along the way. When we asked for local wine pairings, she not only nailed them — she matched each of our individual tastes with uncanny precision.

At the time, I couldn't pick a favorite dish...now,ten days later, I still can’t stop thinking about:

The tender local chickpeas in Nonna’s pasta The subtle flavor the myrtle leaves left on the fresh mozzarella The natural sweetness of the local onions And the perfect balance of dried figs, escarole, and “happy” sausage on what might be the best pizza I’ve ever had

It took serious restraint not to go back the next night. Looking back… I wish we had.

Yes, this review is long — but for a meal like this, it’s warranted. If you find yourself anywhere near Cilento (or honestly, anywhere in Italy), do yourself a favor and go to Ubbipo.

Your only regret might be not going back for seconds.

Love, Katie

P.S. I forgot to mention, this may also be the best DEAL in Italy, as the entire dinner (without drinks)...

My recent dining experience at this restaurant in Agropoli was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the stunning views that surrounded the place. It truly felt like a unique dining destination.

The dishes served were not only bursting with flavor but also executed with perfection. Each bite was a delightful journey of tastes and textures. Every dish exceeded my expectations, and the menu was filled with authentic Cilento recipes, making the experience even more special.

What made this dining experience even more unique was the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the family who runs the restaurant. Adrianna, the mother, was an exceptional hostess, making sure that every guest felt like a VIP. Her hospitality truly elevated the entire dining experience.

To complement the meal, we enjoyed a delicious wine from the Marino vineyard, located just two minutes from the restaurant. It added to the feeling of a truly authentic and local experience.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Agropoli. Whether you're seeking delicious food, breathtaking views, or genuine hospitality, this place has it all. It's a dining experience that will leave a...

My partner and I came here for dinner last night and were instantly greeted with warmth and kindness. The family who run this wonderful place were all so genuine and kind, from their service right through to the food. We sat down on one large table with other guests, and enjoyed a delicious set menu cooked by the family, all of which was local, a lot from the property itself. Each course was explained thoroughly to the entire table before we ate, and each course was better than the one that came before it. The food was truly excellent. Conversation flowed through the entirety of the meal - where we all shared stories for nearly three hours whilst we ate. By the end, it was like sitting to eat with family. I can’t recommend Ubbìpò enough.
