Last week I was visiting my parents in Italy. On Friday 12.09 me and my mom went for a dinner and went as usually to MiraLago. It al begane good Till we order our food. After that the woman who took our order stoped serving us, the only thing that I can think of is that because she heard us speaking other language she did not like. She was also the only one who took the orders that evening. It begon with that my pizza came 40 minutes (or even later ) later than of the rest of the guests who took their order same time as I did. Before that I asked her when she walked by About it and she gave an answer - its comming - in Italian whitout evening looking at me or stop walking. After that when I was done waiting I called her to come by wayving at her while we had eye contact and her reaction was to take her phone and walk away outside, she didnt also send someone else to our table. After my pizza had finally arrived and I ate it a male colleague of her asked me if I wanted a dessert, I said yes. I saw him talking to her but her choice was to ask almost every table arround ours for dessert and to ignore ours. I dont know what she tried to make clear but the only thing that I saw was her low and unproffecial behavior...
Read moreWe went to Angera for New Year's Eve. We booked an all inclusive dinner and entertainment party with a set menu for £80 each at the Miralago. It is situated directly on the shores of Lake Maggiore so you get a fantastic view. The food was average and strictly fish based, but the ambience was great. Everybody was making an effort to include us as they knew we didn't speak Italian. There was a kareoke with lots of English songs which was fun. At midnight they served an Italian liqueur to toast the new year and gave us a Chinese lantern to send soaring above the lake. They then served a plate of lentils with a kind of sausage. Apparently it is traditional to start the year with this dish as lentils symbolise money (and you also have to wear red underpants to get lucky) Each to their own... The only down side was that the toilets were situated in the bar attached to the restaurant, on the other side of the road (not great when wearing an evening dress and it is minus temperatures outside). You had to climb two levels of see through rickety metal stairs (not great in heals) to find only one unisex toilet with a queue...
Read moreA stressed-out waiter nervously running back and forth without really doing much work. The tables with Italian people are served remarkably faster. Once it's your turn, it all has to happen as fast as possible.
A different antipasti than ordered appears on the table, but okay, we'll take it. The Tagliate di Manzo and the Ombrina are served cold without any shame. (The meat dish with spinach is a downright assault on the intestines and health the next days to those who have eaten it, medication was even bought.)
After about forty minutes after the meal, the waiter, by God's grace, pays attention to our table once again, but at that point the enthusiasm for dessert has reached an all-time low and we decide we'd rather proceed to pay, which for all intents and purposes is on the pricey side anyway.
One star for the view over the lake, but that would be better enjoyed strolling along the boulevard with...
