Worst restaurant experience in the whole Italy, in many years !!
We came to the restaurant with my husband and our daughter. We were a little early and have ordered some water while waiting for the menu. Fifteen minutes later the owner, without saying a single word served us a starter. No menu was shown to us or visible anywhere. As we were a little early we thought the starter was served to make us wait for the kitchen to open.
He then appeared again 5 minutes later, took the empty plates away and brought us 3 new plates, each full off small things we did not order - small pizza etc.
This is when we said we did not oder this, he said it was part of the starter. We said we came to the restaurant to try ravioli, and that we did not want a starter. We would like to see the menu and order, he said ok and disappeared again. He came back 5 minutes later with three plates of ravioli we did not order. All this time we were speaking Italian, so no language barrier here.
We said we did not want the ravioli, so he took the plates away, but left us the starter. As he did not come back for another 10 minutes, we have told the lady serving another table we do not want starters. She said it's Sunday so there is a fixed menu with 2 starters, main dish, another dish and désert - for 35€ per person (no children's menu was offered either, and our daughter is still a child and doesn't eat adult portions).
We said we were not aware and would not have stayed if we knew this. We told him he never gave us the menu, and it was nowhere to be seen. This is when he showed us a small blackboard hidden behind a couple of plants, where the prices and the sunday menu was indeed written. Hidden and never shown to us. As we were supposed to go search for it or something. Also, for some reason, a guy at the table near us was eating only ravioli, no weird starters or anything, so this was clearly a tourist trap that treats tourists like crap and locals nicely.
When we told the owner we were not staying, and would like to pay our water & starter (that we ate, we wanted to be correct) he gave us a very high price - 35€ for three starters. Please keep in mind that it is a restaurant in a tiny village up in the mountains, that never ever got anything done between the 1960s - and not in a nice way. The tables, the chairs, the napkins, the cutlery, the bathroom all was very old and clearly no effort was done as to make it look nice. The toilets also had heating on in the midst of August, not sure why ...
When we said that it was too much, he was not happy, started screaming that then we should leave now and that he did not want us to pay anything. As we have insisted to pay something, trying to be nice, the owner got even madder and left and continued mumbling please go away, I don't want you to pay.
The server that saw the scene, was clearly aware of the character & told us the owner needed to calm down a bit. We managed to get another server make us pay the completely overpriced amount of 35€ for starters that were not even good. One of the clients who saw the scene when we were leaving confirmed us that the owner was not friendly at all, never smiled and had a terrible service. We are not sure how this restaurant can have all those good reviews, because this is clearly a...
Read moreWe had a very long trip & were pretty hungry when we arrived to Bajardo. We thought we'd try this place out, we were given the choice between homemade pasta & homemade ravioli, we had one of each. The portions were tiny & the tomato sauce was bland. Same for the ravioli, served with the same sauce, I couldn't figure out what the stuffing was. The bill was 25e with two Moretti beers, our primi were 10e each, I think, which is outrageously expensive for both quantity & quality. Pity because when you offer two options, the least you can do is put the effort to make...
