Old River — Restaurant in Bassa Reggiana

The bed and bathroom were fine, with decent WiFi. The young woman on reception was always friendly and helpful, but she seemed to be running the place on her own. There was a fridge in the room, but it was empty. There were only plastic cups. ||Even for an Italian hotel in a small town, the breakfast was the worst ever, and didn’t get better over the four days. Everything on offer was sugar and carbs: dry biscuits, dry slices of cake, cheap cereal, croissants, cheap yoghurts and jam, synthetic fruit juice, slices of processed cheese and ham. I brought my own pot of porridge and asked for fruit. The same old 5 pieces of fruit were brought out every day: 3 bruised apples and two old satsumas. Was there for a week for business. I was invited by a supplier while we visited their installations in Guastalla. I understand there aren’t any other hotel alternatives so one can’t get too picky... never the less, there are some basic caracteristics that a hotel has or it doesn’t. The bathrooms have been re-decorated recently, a bit small, but were well done and are modern. Unfortunately the hot water was an issue, either boiling or cold... impossible to have a normal shower. The TV was terrible. Not one channel in english or subtitles. No internet, imposible to check email or have a skype or whatsapp call - very hard to get work done. At breakfast, the coffee was good, the croissants ok, but...
