Astino Cavour — Restaurant in Bergamo

We made a reservation for a birthday dinner 3 to 4 weeks in advance. This was a special occasion, with guests traveling from Tirana and other cities across Italy to celebrate. We were very clear about our expectations and the size of our group at the time of booking.

However, when we arrived, we were shocked to find that our table was set up in the bar area, not in the restaurant dining space as reserved. The staff showed no professionalism or courtesy—not a single apology or attempt to find an alternative solution. The manager did absolutely nothing to help, not even a simple “sorry.” Just saying that we have the reservation for 30 people and can not accomodate you. If that’s the case, why accept the reservation at all? Worse, they didn’t even bother to call us in advance to let us know there was a problem or another reservation wjich was bigger than ours. We only found out once we showed up. After all the planning and traveling, we were forced to leave without a celebration. To make things worse, when we mentioned we would be writing a review, some of the staff laughed and clearly didn’t care. Completely...

Beautiful location, but that’s about it. Service is awful, we were brought water but no glasses, food but no cutlery and so on. Every time we wanted to order something we had to stop a staff member. We ordered another bottle of water and they tried to take away the one we already had, which was still half full. We asked for some ice on the side and the waiter answered back saying the water was coming chilled - there were 37/38 degrees on that day! The sharing platter of snacks that comes with drinks is nothing special and always the same. The toilets were disgusting. Definitely not...

Un'occasione mancata. Questa frase riassume molto bene l'estivo di Cavour 1880 presso il monastero di Astino. Lo storico bar pasticceria di città alta, facente parte dell'universo gastronomico della famiglia Cerea proprietaria del tristellato Da Vittorio di Brusaporto, durante la stagione estiva si trasferisce nella meravigliosa cornice dell'ex monastero dei frati Vallombrosani presso la valle di Astino, una delle location più suggestive dell'intera periferia bergamasca. All'interno dei locali di ciò che resta del chiostro principale, la proposta di accoglienza di Cavour consiste in un bistrot&bar, sulla carta ottimo per aperitivi e cene romantiche ma allo stesso tempo informali. La prova dei fatti, però, racconta tutta un'altra storia, soprattutto riguardo la parte bistrot. Nonostante la grande qualità delle materie prime e le ricette semplici che rendono alcune portate notevoli, come la parmigiana e i famosi paccheri, il servizio riesce a rovinare tutto. Nel nostro caso le portate si sono susseguite una accavallata all'altra, servite troppo frettolosamente, senza dare il giusto tempo alla consumazione. Per assurdo un piatto che sulla carta è denominato "scarpetta col pacchero" c'è stato sparecchiato prima ancora della possibilità di far scarpetta. Molto lavoro c'è da fare per formare il personale di sala e, dal mio punto di vista, si potrebbe fare di meglio anche in cucina. È oramai consuetudine per i grandi chef stellati effettuare aperture minori e lasciare le redini della cucina in mano a giovani e talentuosi chef, potrebbe la famiglia Cerea prenderne spunto e trasformare l'estivo di Cavour in qualcosa di diverso rispetto a quello che è attualmente.
