Ristorante Papao e Zimmer — Restaurant in Capannori

Recently visited this charming restaurant and couldn't recommend it highly enough! Just on the outskirts of Lucca, the views of the countryside were lovely and the venue had a really authentic and local feel. It turned out that a lot of the clientele were indeed local, which is hardly surprising, as they must know what a gem they have in their midst.

It was a bit of a foodie's paradise. We asked for a selection of dishes from the menu that the chef and staff recommended, and they did not disappoint. We were treated to a seafood risotto and assorted fried and battered seafood which was super fresh, what with the coast only being a few miles away. The risotto was perfectly cooked, as was the unbelievably tender steak we were served next, and finally a beautiful meat ravioli which was a highlight and apparently a regional speciality. To be honest, all of the dishes were great examples of the authentic local cuisine, as the restaurant prides itself in honest, rustic food typical of the region, representing it's history of culinary delights.

You could tell from the warm welcome we received and the attentive service from the staff (and chef, who took the time to come and speak to us) that everyone involved with the venue was proud of the place, and the food, and took ownership of the restaurant. The same amount of care put into choosing our meal was also put into recommending the local wines to pair with it. The wine was perfect and the experience was sublime.

Well to be honest food was 4 out of 5 and the location is 2 out of 5 completely uninteresting! However we went to celebratory old mother's 74 birthday and the service and general atmosphere was really enjoyable with kids being served immediately and then there was a totally unexpected birthday song celebration for my mother which got the whole place wishing happy birthday and clapping.... my mother was slightly embarrassed but pleased in the end with everyone full of lots of smiles.... so deserving points for its...
