Trattoria da Giovanni - Cucina Siciliana — Restaurant in Castelvetrano

Authentic Sicilian food in this unassuming little trattoria. No printed menu: the owner/manager tells you what there is, in Italian of course. When it came to the fish, he brought out a bowl so that we could see what was what. The grilled sole was delicious!

They catered for my wife, who is a coeliac, without batting an eyelid.

Do not expect a wine list. A carafe of marsala type wine was put on the table.

This is clearly a place locals go to eat, and I can see why. I have given 4 stars for atmosphere as we were the only diners, but I think at 7.45 we were probably early.

€50 (cash, cards not taken) for the 2 of us for 2 courses plus a bruschetta appetiser and salad.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Castelvettrano, I recommend Trattoria...

Incredible food, all local and fresh from what they find that day in the market (so no written menu). We managed to communicate between slow Spanish and slow Italian, so some knowledge of Latin languages required, but well worth it! Everything was delicious, starter and dessert on the house (both incredible, all tables get the same). Local made wine is a bit strange but works perfectly with the food. And the owners are super nice. Can’t recommend more! Bring cash though as they don’t take cards (many atms around). Oh and it’s starter, primi, segundi, fruit and dessert for all tables. If you aren’t planning on eating all of it, you will still be charged for it! That’s the way it goes for both...

Attention ⛔️ arnaque !!! À notre arrivée, nous avons été agréablement surpris : on nous installe directement à table, sans rien demander, avec de l’eau et du vin, et on nous apporte deux assiettes d’antipasto (bruschette, olives et fromage). Ensuite, nous choisissons chacun un plat, que nous mangeons avec plaisir – c’était bon. Puis, on nous propose un dessert, des cassatelle (8 au total), que nous acceptons.

Mais au moment de l’addition, mauvaise surprise : 24 € facturés pour l’antipasto que nous n’avions jamais commandé (selon le patron, il nous l’aurait mis “en attendant nos plats”) et 20 € de boissons pour le vin et l’eau que nous n’avions pas demandés non plus. Certains commentaires précédents disent bien que l eau , le vin , l antipasto son offerts . Nous avions déjà lu dans les commentaires précédents que ce restaurant utilisait ce genre de pratiques douteuses, et malheureusement, nous avons vécu la même chose.

En sortant, j’explique au patron ce que j’ai remarqué, en disant que ce n’était pas correct. Sa réponse ? Un simple “oui, ça va, OK”, et il nous a laissés partir ainsi.

⚠️ Attention aux touristes : ils essaient de vous arnaquer en ajoutant des suppléments dans l’addition et en comptant des frais non demandés. Franchement, c’est honteux. Après, on s’étonne que les Siciliens aient mauvaise réputation… Nous sommes nous-mêmes Siciliens, et honnêtement, tomber sur ce genre de personnes ne donne pas envie de fréquenter la Sicile et donne une très mauvaise image du pays. Honte à toi !!! Tu penses être plus riche après nous avoir volé 50€...
