Ristorante Lo Scalino — Restaurant in Castiglione della Pescaia

We arrived at Lo Scalino on a stormy evening and had the entire marquee to ourselves. The intimate setting turned out to be incredibly romantic, setting the tone for one of the most memorable meals of our trip. From start to finish, the food was truly first class. My wife began with the seafood salad while I opted for the gnocchi with mussels both dishes were absolute standouts: fresh, flavourful, and beautifully prepared. For our mains, we enjoyed the Trofie pasta and the Frittura. Once again, the ingredients spoke for themselves simple, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. If I had one small note, it would be that the Frittura had slightly more vegetables than expected in a seafood dish, but it was still thoroughly enjoyable. We finished with a refreshing Sgroppino, the perfect end to the meal. The service was just as impressive as the food. Worse experience in a long time. First we had to wait for 1.5 hours for the food. Dissapointment is an understatement. We had to essentially serve the drinks ourselves. A meal of 22 eur a plate consisted of shells of seafood without the meat! One of our kids order today's fish and ended up with a bill of 56 eur for small plate with three slices of aubergine. We challenged the bill and were treated so rudely we have never experienced anything like it. What a pity for a resto in a nice setting and with a lovely young waitress who did her best to manage the situation. Best avoided. We visited for meals on 2 nights. Located at the base of the steps near the center of the port.

We had tuna and fried seafood the first night with a bottle of Chianti. Sat outside. Staff very friendly and helpful. Served complimentary bread basket. Great evening with wonderful sunsets.

Next night asked 2 locals for their recommendation for a restaurant, and they both suggested Lo Scalino. Second night we had tuna and spaghetti with clams. Great evening.
