Hostaria del Faro — Restaurant in Catania

Just awful. I went to the restaurant with my two kids having really high expectations since I saw great reviews from others. We ordered one seafood risotto, one grilled prawns, one grilled mixed fish and water. We got some bread before our food that we thought tasted pretty good and then the food came in. We noticed immediately how the prawns were all not fresh and smelled really bad including the ones in the grilled mixed fish and they were completely unbeatable. The other things on fish mix plate was decent but nothing special but the risotto was good. Before we paid I tried to tell them that the prawns were bad but it was hard for us to understand each other😅.

Our taxi was about to pick us up so we had to hurry. The staff was good though except for serving the unbeatable prawns and they tried to fix everything by removing the money for the prawn plate and offered us to buy fresh tuna for the money instead. Just had a Fantastic authentic Italian meal at Hostaria del Faro. A group of us visited early on a quiet Monday evening and they went out of there way to provide an excellent dinner. Producing the best brucetta we’ve had in Sicily even though they were off menu to accompany our mixed starter. The spaghetti vongole was fantastic, really fresh and tasty clams in a beautifully seasoned fresh herb spaghetti. And to top it off, we all wanted tiramisu which was also created freshly for us, fresh espresso soaked sponge fingers, with a floaty light mascarpone topped generously with chocolaty coco topping. Old-school seafood restaurant in unpromising surroundings which is a hundred times more welcoming inside than it looks from the outside. Grizzled old waiters, a buzzy, lively atmosphere, low prices and beautiful fresh food add up to reassuringly familiar Italian dining experience.
