I don’t normally write reviews but in this case, I wanted to chime in as I really wanted to like this place, but…. After my hotel recommended this place, I went online to check them out. The menu looked great (I picked out what I would order if I did stop in) and the reviews I saw were very good. Knowing that it had changed ownership, been renovated and recently re-opened it looked like a great spot to stop in for lunch on my way back from my walk to Cernobbio. On my way to Cernobbio, I poked my head in and saw the nice décor and fantastic views. I was excited to try it and picked up the pace to get to Cernobbio and back a little quicker! When I did enter, I was seated at a table in the middle of the place. Most of the tables along the water were full (understandably so!) and my table was fine, still with great views. I was presented the menu and wine list. I confirmed the printed menu was the same as what was online (sometimes that’s not the case) and knew what I was going to order. The wine list looked very good, but didn’t see wines by the glass and was going to ask about that. (I was on my own, other wise my wife and I would have gotten a bottle) This is when it all went downhill. I sat there; menus closed for a good ten/fifteen minutes, all the while wait staff passed by me, stood at the wait stand (very close to my table) and no one ever came by to greet me, offer water and allow me to find out if they have wines by the glass! I stopped short of being the ugly American and jumping and a down waving to get their attention, but I did catch their eye numerous times, and nothing. They were not busy, and I was the invisible man! I had been in Como for a week and had acclimated myself to the place and pace….and had no problems in any of the many other restaurants prior to this experience. I just got a bad feeling and decided to quietly get up and leave….and they didn’t seem to care. I’ve worked in the industry and can only hope to chalk it up to a bad day with something else going on behind the scene, as I see many very good reviews, but also a few that shared a similar...
Read moreAs a local been to Terrazza Olmo quite a few times after approximately a half year absence it was shocking to see how rapidly has this restaurant deteriorated. The food is barely edible (by Italian standards) and the service although courteous has a makeshift feel to it. Was is really concerning is the food, what used to be a reasonably upscale place where they offered gourmet pizzas and an overall rich menu became a shadow of itself. Prices seem to have increased, service worsened and the food is frankly terrible. Not sure what happened, but management needs to rectify this asap…otherwise it will be yet another failed restaurant venture adjacent to Villa Olmo and that’s a...
Read moreDo not come here for the food! Prices are high, but that’s a given considering the location and the milieu. Unfortunately even a simple Italian classic like pizza can be ruined — our pizzas, both of them were somehow both soggy and dry. Swimming in mozzarella water while adorning burnt crusts. Not to mention the lack of flavor…. Although we visited during riposo, around 15.30 on June 8th, it is no excuse for lousy food.
I’m sure a light snack and drinks are fine, but this was not worth the visit from the next door ‘lake club’ (which FYI is separate from the terrazza).
On a sidenote, the waitress with glasses and greying hair was...
