Al Vaticano — Restaurant in Comunità Alto Garda e Ledro

We stumbled across this restaurant while on a day visit to Riva from Desenzano, it was market day so the restaurant was obscured from the S. Maria church side by a large market truck so we almost missed it. However a beautiful young Italian woman offered 2 free proseccos as an apertivo so we said why not. The menu is excellent with plenty of choice, we opted for the lamb and duck with a shared Greek salad and a bottle of Bardalino. As one of our(Irish) female politicians is wont to intone, "I have to say", this was one of the best meals we've had so far on our 8 day tour of Verona and Lake Garda. The lamb, 5 good size lion chops, was perfectly cooked and seasoned pink and succulent, as was the duck breast. A Greek salad accompaniment was flavoursome. As the main food course was so good(compliments to the chef) we opted to share a Tiramisu, also delicious. If you are in Riva give this restaurant a try. Total cost...

We went there for lunch as hunger struck when we were in the area. We were a bit skeptical in the beginning as it had all the signs of a tourist place in a busy are like close to the shore of lake garda. But I am the first to admit I was very wrong. The food was top knotch, the service likewise and the host was absolutely delectable. They did everything they could to accommodate 5 people and 2 very tired dogs and keep them in the shade. We tried a few dishes and everyone of them left nothing to be desired . I should not mention that the olive oils we tested as well were very good and the prosecco or limonada as welcome drinks were more than appreciated. As we will go back, I have no doubts this will always be the place to go to when in hunger . As for the rest i will let the pictures speak for themselves , looks I have missed some . This place is trying something new- they offered us a free prosecco as a "gift" if we came in. I was a little suspicious, but the dinner was actually very delicious. The service also took an interesting tack, they were a lot more pushy and convinced us to order more than we had planned on, which was not the best feeling. The portions are large, so we weren't able to finish our meals. We also got a complementary lemon sorbet with our dessert.

The food itself was great, and came out incredibly quickly. My lamb chops were top notch! The meat dishes don't come with their own veggie sides, and we were offered sides (for extra) and they came out also in very large portions. We probably only needed one of these for the two of us.
