A secret backstreet in the heart of the old town we found the quant courtyard of Osteria Antico Brolo.
Quickly seated and G&T aperitivos in hand we cautiously opted for the truffle treat combination, wary that too much truffle can be overwhelming. We were pleased to also find a Marzemimo red on the wine list from the vineyard we had spent the afternoon at tasting.
The busy restaurant had a lively atmosphere but head chef Enrico had a confident hand on the tiller.
Our antipasto was a delicious poached egg in a parmesan cheese mousse with fresh shavings of truffle, the tastiest dish in Lake Garda.
Primo followed which was a delicate spaghettini interwoven with laces of courgette and topped with just enough grating of truffle.
The arrival of secondo was a delicious tender guinea fowl breast, Jerusalem artichoke puree, roast potatoe and once again a confident balance of truffle.
Finally after a refreshing limoncello our dolce arrived, which was a very light bossola cake with kumquat egg nog, so simple but a perfect end to a well balanced meal.

Read moreAn absolutely exquisite restaurant, very niche looking and absolutely screams “Italian Backstreet Restaurant” since that’s exactly what it is, not too much of a view, good interior design though with the few special places to dine being the wine cellar and the mini balcony (Capable of only fitting 2 people on it for a date). The food is as good as it gets, verging onto Michelin Recommended. The staff speak Italian, English, Dutch, German and Russian (Been there 4 times already so heard it all). Would recommend booking a few days/weeks in advance due to high demand during peak summer season, but if you are lucky 2-3 people could get in on that off chance it’s free. In terms of parking it’s a bit of a nightmare, it’s suggested you either park next to the Vittoralie Degli Italiana Museum and have a 5 minute stroll through town, or park next to the Communa Riviera Del Garda. Just as a good note, before and after going to the restaurant stop off at the bar on that corner right next to the restaurant for a brilliant beer or aperol spritz. Otherwise enjoy your...
Read moreDon’t go if you have any food restrictions!! We found chicken in our vegan dish and the wait staff told us it was squid. 1) If it was squid, and we were allergic to squid, the 20 minutes of debate between chef and waiter whether it actually was animal, could have been critical time we missed rushing to the hospital. 2) After they took the half-eaten dish, we received no apology, replacement dish and even had to fight the chef to remove the “vegan” dish from our check. The food was tasty however the lack of respect and care for their patrons ruined the experience. They do not deserve to be showcased on the Michelin rating.
P.S- they recycle bread from the bread baskets, so you’re eating bread already handled by previous restaurant goers. This is so...
