La Ruggia is a fantastic spot for fish lovers – so good that we came back a second time during our stay in Varigotti. The mussels were outstanding, full of flavor, and the burrata-stuffed anchovies were just as impressive. The tuna tartar tagliolini was out of this world, and the devil fish was also excellent.
On our second visit we had to order the mussels again, and also enjoyed the fried calamari with carrots and zucchini, which were light and delicious. For the main course we shared the catch of the day (dorado) for two, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The meal was rounded off beautifully with a tiramisu that was excellent. Both the beer selection and the white wine we had were also very good and paired perfectly with the dishes.

Last night we spent 140€ for a three people dinner. The fish patties as starters were okay, only I suspect they were reheated, as the cold veggie cream soup that came with them helped corroborating. They arrived very quickly, as did the disappointingly tasteless tuna, dispelling many doubts about the freshness of the dishes.
The white wine was sugary but accompanied well the second courses, if it wasn't that my bass filled was already splashed with the water of its own cooking, making for a soggy, kinda sad piece of fish. Decorating the dish were some artsy doodled 'commas' made of what we discovered being ketchup sauce. This was probably the lowest moment of the dinner. Obviously It didn't sit well with any of the accompanied dishes.

Confesso che nell'entrare in questo ristorante ho commesso due errori iniziali: il primo è stato quello di fidarmi di un collega che era stato anni fa e conservava un ricordo non più attuale di questo locale. Bastava leggere le recensioni di questo portale per capire che qualcosa non andava! la seconda è stata quella di entrare pensando ad un ristorante... in realtà si tratta di un lido per bagnanti che alla sera offre anche dei piatti... diciamo cosi...forse entrare con questa idea ci avrebbe disposto diversamente...
La location è carina, come ce ne sono altee peraltro in questa zona, e qui ho finito gli aspetti positivi.
Nonostante avessimo prenotato siamo stati collocati in una sistemazione di fortuna, a fianco a quelle che di giorno sono le cabine per i bagnanti.
Il personale litigioso e sgarbato, sbuffa costantemente, alle mie domande circa la possibilità di richiedere portate diverse da quelle scarse e strimizzite offerte dal limitato menu, risponde con dei "no" secchi che da soli meriterebbero di alzarsi e uscire dal locale.
Il menù come ho anticipato è limitato, poche portate, molto banali... nulla di ricercato ma anche sul non ricercato non offre molto: .. non c'è una grigliata di pesce o un fritto di calamari... antipasti minimali... i soliti spaghetti alle vongole e poco altro...
Le porzioni e la qualità delle stesse si addicono a un ristorante per gatti... ho chiesto del tonno con delle verdure, mi hanno portato un piatto stretto e lungo con 3 bocconcini di (forse) tonno grandi un pollice gratinati con una pastella i cui postumi li sto ancora sentendo adesso.
La chicca infine è la tizia che c'è alla cassa... sgarbata, scortese, al limite della maleducazione...
