Le Fate home restaurant — Restaurant in Florence

We arrived at 19:30, right after opening time, the owner explained that tonight was a fixed menu of starter, main and dessert. She mentioned they wouldn't start serving until 15 more minutes. We were fine with it. After 20 minutes the first starter was served, basically humus and some bread, and we were served another appetizer, bread and dips, after another 15 minutes.

After that we waited and waited until a bit after 9pm, more than an hour and a half of waiting, the main dish was finally served. A lukewarm lasagna that was very doughy, light on sauce and just ok, and that was most of the meal. It did seem like it was just microwaved.

The dessert came with the fixed menu deal, so we took it, and chose their tofu cheesecake after the waiter told us if we're vegan we must taste it. It was also just ok. Not the best vegan cheesecake by far.

All of it was very expensive, about €35 per person (we were a couple) not including drinks or wine (or water). It was not worth the price and the wait.

Regardless of the food, the atmosphere was also bad. There was a large group of people who can only be assumed to be regulars, as they chatted away with the owner. They were obnoxiously loud, which didn't seem to bother the owners.

We had a wonderful vegan dinner tonight at Le Fate Bistro. It’s a bit of a walk North of central Florence but it was well worth it! The owner was our chef, host, and server. She treated us very kindly and fed us one of the best dinners we’ve had in Italy. We started with a simple salad that was fresh and crisp - we could hear her in the back chopping it up. For mains we had a pasta dish and lasagna. The pasta was perfectly al dente and had great flavor. The lasagna was creamy and decadent. Each dish came with several sides, which were excellent as well. Eating at La Fate Bistrot was the highlight of my visit to Florence. Even though it was late, I was given amazing food and was treated extremely nice.

I had a selection of vegan cheese as appetizer, paired with bread and red wine. It was delicious! I was very happy about the selection of different cheeses, and they all tasted great.

As main dish, I had a lasagna. It was the best lasagna I ever had. It picked me up after an intense day, and really nourished me. The taste is, for me, unparalleled and makes me want to come back to...
