Not Recommend! Within 10 minutes we were the only people in the place. We spent ages reading the menu, meanwhile we ordered water and wine. When we came to order the food we were told the menu was indicative and none of the things we wanted were available. In fact the only choices were 2 different tomato sauces with which to put with a choice of 8 different pastas (4 fresh 12 euro, 4 dried 8 euro) and either sausages, zampone (pigs trotters) or lamb sticks (these are sold in all the supermarkets and are always stringy and tough). We should have walked out but we had wine open and it was late. We just ate the mixed meat and cheese plater, which was excellent. It was very cold in the restaurant with all the glass covered in condensation - there was a heater, but it was off; even though we didn't take out coats off by the time we had eaten one course we were cold. The music would have been really nice unfortunately it was played through the worst sounding speaker I have ever heard - like a cassette tape player's speaker from the 80s. The place is quirky in a nice way, the wine is nice and very cheap: perhaps if you want a quick tomato pasta (not cheap though) and sausages and it is not too cold outside this is the place for you. I understand that it was a quiet time but they have to be honest and immediately explain what their menu is when a customer walks in. I posted the above and then the owner replied - sadly the owner is being disingenuous - at best! (giving credence to a previous reviewer who described her as "Furbo"). My wife and I went out to have a full lunch ready to spend a good sum of money and spend some time together. We ordered the platter (there was no other choice other than bruschette if I recall correctly), we then ordered a pasta with truffles (there being no other choice other than tomato sauce, I then ordered guinea fowl and my wife ordered a really nice sounding pork fillet, there was one other meat choice which also sound good. We spent a long time deciding what to eat (partly because it took a long time to work out that the apparently fabulous pasta choice was just tomato sauce and different pasta) and had started our wine - but there was no pasta with truffle, there was no pork, there was no guinea fowl and the third choice of meat was also not available. Why the owner says that the only thing not avaialble was truffles I have no idea - perhaps she didn't realise that I can edit my review! We did try to suggest that the owner has a simple blackboard with the food avaialble written on it explaining that we felt misled and had wasted out time considering the menu but she was having none of it and it was the owner that described her menu as 'indicative' not I (and clearly she will not heat the place or change the music either!!) - I actually really approve of short menus in small restaurants (but the food has to be inviting!!) but we went out for a big meal and whilst the owner considers that us paying 20 euro for a meal is a good thing, for us it ruined our day. There are restaurants that serve pasta and tomato sauce and sausages with ice cream to follow but they are for lunch for workers and farmers etc. I will not continue this conversation I am sure readers will understand exactly the situation no matter what the...
Read moreL'Arcolaio is a very special restaurant and, with only four tiny tables and no separation between kitchen and dining room, could well be the smallest restaurant I've eaten at in my long life. Run by two sisters who do both the cooking and the waiting, L'Arcolaio is full to the brim of a myriad of family items and pictures, which contribute to the feeling of eating not in a restaurant but at the sisters' home, also considering the continuous interaction and chatting between the customers and the owners. The menu gives a good overview of local cuisine and products, and the dishes are very well prepared and of excellent quality. Prices are rather expensive, a 3-course dinner would exceed €50 without wine, but are somehow justified by the quality and the uniqueness of the dining experience....
Saluti e buona continuazione....
