This was literally the worst meal I had in all of Italy. Slow, rude, inattentive, lazy, and the food was subpar. When we 1st got there the male waiter with glasses looked at us and said “we have no open tables” (only 2 other people were in there) and I said “we have a reservation” he begrudgingly sat us. Then they sat around talking and eating (it was past opening time and our reservation) before even approaching our table. Finally we got our drinks and the woman waitress asked the male waiter if he wanted to take our meal down and he said no and walked away. We are American but they didn’t realize my husband speaks and understands Italian. While we were sitting there 3 more couples walked in WITHOUT reservations and they sat them right away. (They we’re Italian) I will say it again they were all rude and lazy. It was unbelievable because no other restaurants in Gaeta or the other cities in Italy were like this. The food was a 2 out of 10. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!! So many other better places in Gaeta to eat! Food definitely wasn’t worthy of...
Read moreThis is the second time I’ve had a bad experience with this restaurant and it is because of the staff. And this time I didn’t even make it to the restaurant. I speak very poor Italian, but I try my best. I attempted to make a reservation by telephone but when the person I was talking to realized I didn’t speak Italian he hung up on me. Giving the benefit of the doubt I called again and again he hung up on me. He didn’t speak English and I don’t speak Italian but he could have worked with me, we could of hashed it out. There are many Americans living in Gaeta so this rude pompous attitude is unacceptable. There are many other better quality establishments to choose from and in the future I will. This place will not get a...
Read moreEating at Masaniello has been like taking a time machine and going back in time, to the flavors and smells familiar, to the real home stile cooking, with courteous people serving at the table, with an eye always at the tables. Dora was substituting a colleague, doing everything by herself, still courteous, nice smile, right suggestions, and humbly saying sorry if she didn't know something running to get the right answer. Maria and Franco are really great too. Food is fresh, fish of excellent quality, place is very family like. The restaurant is located in a small square with an appropriate name "Commestibili" which means edible. We will go...
