La Mimosa Ristorante — Restaurant in Gallarate

I recently dined at La Mimosa Ristorante, and it is hard to put into a review how wonderful the experience was. I was traveling with my partner, parents, and in-laws and we came to La Mimosa Ristorante for dinner. The experience at La Mimosa was incredible - the ambiance was very demur and unassuming, but the service and the food were beyond what we expected. The service provided by Matteo Polidoro was so impressive - he explained the menu in English to my parents (from the US and who do not speak Italian) and then discussed the varieties of grapes in the wine from Piemonte with my in-laws (who are Italian and live in Torino). He provided excellent wine and food recommendations, and truly an incredible host at his establishment. While Matteo set a high bar for our dining experience, the food was equally as impressive. In particular, the venison with cherries and popcorn (!) was truly a meal deserving of a Michelin rating. This restaurant is a little off the beaten path, but if you are in the area, this is a really amazing place to eat. My only regret is that I had to get on a plane the next day to return to the US. If I hadn’t, I would have been back to La Mimosa Ristorante the following night for dinner again....

L'ambiente non è enorme ma anzi ci sono pochi tavoli e questo aiuta a rendere il posto intimo e soprattutto a far sì che il servizio sia veloce. il personale è molto gentile, specialmente il proprietario. L'unica pecca è il cibo che non è all'altezza della la pomposità con cui viene descritto nel menu. Ho ordinato una pizza bufala ed è stata la prima volta in vita mia in cui mi è stato detto che avrei dovuto specificare che sulla pizza volevo soltanto la mozzarella di bufala perché quel che mi è arrivato è stato un'accozzaglia di mozzarella e qualcosa che doveva sembrare bufala ma non ne aveva il sapore. Il mio ragazzo inoltre aveva ordinato delle cipolle di Tropea provate in precedenza sempre nello stesso locale che gli erano piaciute moltissimo, ma questa volta gli sono state servite delle semplici cipolle bianche piuttosto insapori. Abbiamo comunicato questi piccoli disagi al proprietario che prontamente per scusarsi ci ha offerto il caffè. Al contrario della cena, siamo stati molto piacevolmente stupiti dai dolci che penso siano il loro punto forte: assolutamente squisiti. Tutto sommato un posto molto piacevole dall'atmosfera informale. È apprezzabile il tipo di cucina ricercata che vogliono offrire e soprattutto la evidente passione che tutto lo staff riversa in questa attività. Non penso che non tornerò mai più ma magari tra qualche tempo, quando avranno aggiustato un po' il tiro...

This restaurant is a hidden gem of Italy. I have made a trip all the way to Gallarate for the last 5 or 6 years just to have dinner with Matteo.
