BEWARE OF THIS SCAMMY TOURIST TRAP. They clearly take advantage of non-Italian speakers.

Google please let me put zero stars. It was probably the most terrible restaurant experience I’ve ever had, which now has become a running joke among friends and family. I’ll tell you the whole story, which will repeat a lot of criticisms made in the other reviews. We wanted to have a quick lunch so we entered before reading the other reviews. We were told that there was only fish dishes available and we were seated without a menu. The chef basically chose for us, but not in a funny and quirky way, but by making us order the same dish as all the other clients: spaghetti with clams, mussels and shrimp. The waiter kept bringing food that he claimed that “it was on the house” or “for the wait” but at that point we luckily already red the previous reviews that told us that they were gonna make us pay for it, so we promptly refused it (this is really sad because in Italy a lot of restaurants do offer free antipasti to the people waiting). Then we waited 40 minutes, while the restaurant was not incredibly full, but I’m so glad that it was the case, cause it gave us a reason to ask for the bill and try to leave. The issue is that the cook became very angry at us because he claimed that the food was almost ready and that he was gonna make us pay for it anyways. So we decided to stay to eat and then leave. But, if this whole thing was not already a terribly stressful dining experience, since we always had to be ready to refuse some fake-free dish, the pasta that they put in our plate a few minutes later was raw. RAW. The spaghetti stayed almost horizontal even when lifted up. So we told it to the waiter, who at that point had no other excuse to keep us there, and he allowed us to leave, accompanied by the screams of the chef. As an Italian, I can say that it’s incredibly sad that the McDonalds meal that we had in the end (cause nothing else was open) was much nicer than the one of...

If you are a from another country when visiting this restaurant be very, very careful before you sit down to eat.

I went into this restaurant with my partner to eat Lasagne as it was on the menu outside.

We are from Scotland, so could not speak Italian or read what the menu was.

We sat down and before we knew it 2 glasses of wine were put down in front of us, without us asking for it, then 2 plates of aperitifs, then a bowl of mussels, all of what we did not ask for.

No waiter or waitress came to our table to ask what we wanted to eat or give us menu's.

When we asked what the aperitifs were for and the bowl of mussels, we were told by the waitress, "complimentary ".

Next thing we knew, the owner came out with a massive wooden bowl of spaghetti and fish which we did not order.

We said, "no" we did not order that.

We wanted to eat Lasagne, that's all we wanted to eat, the chef said he did not have Lasagne, and said to us "Ravioli".

We were given no menu, no one asked us what we wanted to eat.

More worrying was we could have been allergic to nuts, or fish etc and put at harms way because we were given no menu's or information on the ingredients.

And we were eventually charged €70.

An expensive experience we will not forget, and never go back.

The owner definitely took advantage of us that we could not speak or read Italian.

If we could give no stars, we would.

Domenica 2 luglio 2023...32 gradi all'ombra, cielo terso. Grosseto è tutta al mare...tutti i ristoranti chiusi...con mia moglie cerco un posto qualsiasi dove mangiare qualcosa di leggero. Decidiamo di andare al centro commerciale a mangiare una qualsiasi "non cosa"... Capita però che tornando alla macchina, passiamo davanti all'Hostaria Bella Roma...aperta! con Barry White a tutto volume che con la sua musica spettacolare "allieta" l'intero quartiere...Vediamo la lista, cucina romana, ottimo! Abbandono l'idea dell'insalatina o della piadina preconfezionata e propendo per un'amatriciana. La cameriera ci fa accomadare intanto che il "dee-jay" attacca con gli stornelli romani di Lando Fiorni, sempre a favor di quartiere, casse da concerto e via..io e mia moglie ci sediamo, non facciamo in tempo a ricevere l'acqua che arrivano tre antipasti di pesce. "Mi scusi, ma noi non l'abbiamo ordinato"...e la cameriera, imperiosa e decisa ma con il sorriso..."oggi facciamo pesce, c'è il menù fisso". La cosa ci sorprende...ci guardiamo ma alla fine sai cosa? Che vada per il pesce, d'altronde a noi piace...accettiamo questa strana "imposizione" con lo spirito dell'avventura...e perchè no? di quella romanità conviviale e caciarona che a noi non dispiace. Per inciso...la cameriera credo sia dell'est, ma ha chiaramente recepito lo stile della gestione. Quindi ok, decidiamo di lasciarci sorprendere. In effetti non ci siamo mai divertiti tanto mangiando, sia nel vedere le dinamiche cuoco/cameriera, ma ancor più la sorpresa sulle facce dei clienti arrivati dopo di noi, travolti da questo modo di fare... Il cibo? Strepitoso, cosa che ci ha lasciati positivamente sorpresi ed ha contribuito ad una migliore accettazione della situazione. Mai capitata prima in tanti anni, ma che non poteva mancare nel nostro bagaglio di esperienza. Cosa avremmo perso se fossimo andati al centro commerciale!!! Antipasti eccellenti (cozze alla marinara, gamberoni in guazzetto, alici marinate, salmone), a seguire spaghetti alla chitarra con vongole, polipetti e totani. Ecco, qui capita che arriva lo chef spadellando e roteando con abile colpo di polso lo spaghetto in padella e, avvicinandomelo, mi dice: "senti che profumo"...e in effetti nulla da eccepire: perfetti! Pesce freschissimo, ben curato, spaghetto al dente...il tutto pure abbondante che non ce l'abbiamo fatta a finirli, sapendo che poi a seguire ci sarebbe stato "ancora un pesciolino"...una bella spigola al forno con patate, notevole anch'essa per freschezza e sapore. Insomma, se da un lato uno può rimanere un po' scioccato dal modo di fare poco ortodosso e da questa gestione eccessivamente romanesca e goliardica...che dire, cibo eccellente per 70 euro in due, tutto compreso, acqua, vino e crema caffè. Per il cibo darei 5 stelle, meritate, anche per il rapporto qualità/prezzo, ma, sebbene sia stata un'esperienza che ricorderemo e racconteremo con gioia e divertimento ai nostri nipoti e amici...una stella in meno proprio per la particolarità della gestione. Nel leggere le recensioni per la gran parte inorridite un po' mi sorprendo...credo si possa capire e assecondare questa piccola follia giocosa di questo gestore, il suo spirito.
