The service was absolutely excellent. The staff were very patient explaining the menu and customising to our requirements. The complementary starters and bread were great but from there it was sadly all downhill.
I had the mixed raw fish platter and unfortunately it was mostly populated with items that should have been fresher, as they were starting to smell a bit. One I had to spit out as it just tasted wrong and I spent the rest of the meal and the following several hours worried that I would get food poisoning. Strangely, the oyster that came from France (and had travelled the furthest) was great, and the real highlight of the plate, contrasted with the local sea truffle clam which was the one that was inedible. The only other item I enjoyed on the plate was the passion fruit with the matis shrimp I think it was. The sauces on the dish were delicate, so that you could actually taste the ingredients, which would have been good if they were fresh enough. Sadly they were not. In cases where there was some marinating, I did not feel this really added to the dish either and it was all just a bit bland to be honest.
The chef could also have been more careful. There was a shrimp antenna on one of the peeled ones (you can see it in the "back" of the brown prawn in the picture, although the antenna evidently comes from the red prawn...) and there was a bone in one of the marinated fish portions. Overall, for the price I was paying I expected more, but really the lack of freshness was the main problem.
The other plates were also not very good to be honest, with a tendency to put an unnecessary twist on perfectly good recipes. The vongole was a good example, that came in an odd creamy sauce that I'd never had before. Fried calamari and vegetables were also far too salty, although squid and prawns were fresh. Lobster pasta dish was also a complete waste of a perfectly good lobster I felt. Overall very disappointing, but maybe it was just a bad day, there's definitely potential, but I'd stay well away from...
Read moreThe waiter was not very nice. We always try to speak as much Italian as possible, but sometimes we just need to talk English. We do not demand from anyone that he speaks German. English is a good compromise for everyone, especially in a tourist location. As we are non Italian tourists the waiter cannot demand, that we can speak his language perfectly - but I think, that was his problem. That we didn't speak Italian. And that is - in my opinion - very rude and backwoods thinking. Maybe he should leave Italy for a vacation once, and he will get more open minded. That's what I can say about our waiter. There was also a waitress who was super friendly and nice! She even tried to speak German. Very nice person. About the most important part: the food. It was delicious! If you love frutti di mare, you definitely have to check out this place. The portions were very huge and served with a hot iron plate, so the food stays warm as long as possible. I can recommend this place to every friend of seafood. I just hope you get the waitress and not waiter if you're not...

Primo. Paccheri e mare. (1 porzione per 2) Secondo. Seppie in umido con polentina. (1 porzione per 2) Vino. Lugana Ca dei frati. Dolce.
In sintesi esperienza...
