Ale's Pizza — Restaurant in Massa

Shocked by the attitude of the male owner/manager of the restaurant here which took everything away for the experience we had overall. And to be honest the other staff weren’t not so attentive or hospitable either. Quite a poor experience, not a good vibe.

I was visiting with my wife’s family who live locally and have been regular customers this place for years as a number of them are celiac. I had heard good things about the pizza (especially for the gf pizza). When we arrived for a table booked for 6, we was placed on a table for 4 with two additional chairs added on the ends with a dripping AC fan right above us. Not ideal, but ok if that that’s the only option. However right across from us was an empty table for 6… So we kindly asked if it would be possible to switch to have more space to not be crammed together and risk cross-contamination of the gluten - to which the response was abrupt and rude, shouted over from this angry man behind the counter in the open kitchen, with other staff rolling their eyes, no one able to explain the situation to us in a kind manner. After being snappy and stubborn they basically said the other table had been booked first. Ok…Somewhat understandable, but surely a table for 6 should be a table for 6, not two small tables with two chairs shoved on the side with minimal space under a dripping AC - plus it’s not like we booked last minute we had booked midday for an evening meal. Anyway not making a big deal about it we sat. It then took about 10-15 minutes until we had to stand up and ask for one of the floor staff who was standing with her back to us to take our order just to get some drinks. The meal went on with no other issues, the pizza was fine, not the best, fairly small but ok, I would say average at best (mine was not gf).

During and also by the end of our meal we realise the table of 6 across from us was still empty! So when paying for the bill we asked why and how it was possible that A) We weren’t offered the table early into our meal after the booking didn’t show, and B) How their booking system works so we can ensure we get the correct seating arrangements in the future. Straight away the same guy overheard from the kitchen (which btw is basically in the restaurant) again shouting and causing a scene “if you don’t like it here don’t come here again” …No understanding for the situation, no care at all. Everyone in the restaurant was looking over shocked. I honestly couldn’t believe it! So rude and aggressive causing a huge scene over us simply trying to get some clarity on the situation which was never addressed or apologised for. And resulting in loosing some loyal local customers who did absolutely nothing wrong. Crazy! I honestly don’t understand why someone like that would even work in hospitality. Hopefully for the sake of the restaurant they choose to replace him with someone who actually cares about their customers - which he clearly doesn’t. And teach their staff to show more respect and have more understanding for these kind of situations, it’s really the minimum expectation of customers service.

The restaurant inside isn’t particularly nice by the way, quite simple. The back area in particular was quite ugly with a dripping AC and out-dated and the toilets seemed quite neglected with a broken tap. I was very disappointed overall, I won’t be...

Ottima esperienza in questa pizzeria, che ormai è diventata per me un riferimento. Velocità, ampia scelta di pizze e gentilezza sono i punti forti del locale. Assolutamente consigliato. EDIT AGOSTO '24: Purtroppo mi vedo costretto a modificare la recensione a causa del trattamento che abbiamo ricevuto nel locale che a mio avviso è inaccettabile. Riassumendo, decido di ordinare un calzone, la cui descrizione riporta: "CALZONE SPECIAL": Calzone farcito con crema al formaggio e speck (Ora, prima che continui, provate a pensare a come interpretereste la frase). Non appena mi viene servito e inizio a tagliarlo, mi accorgo che all'interno anziché speck e formaggio ci sono in realtà cotto, wurstel e funghi, mentre lo speck e il formaggio si trovano solo esternamente sopra il calzone. Presento un po' stupito la vicenda alla cameriera che subito si reca in cucina per poi tornare dicendo sostanzialmente che quello era ciò che io avevo ordinato. Allora, ancora più perplesso, sottolineo le mie ragioni e mi propone dunque di prendere il piatto per farlo vedere in cucina. Dato che il forno è praticamente nella sala dove si mangia, assisto alla scenata del cuoco/pizzaiolo che con un tono non proprio sereno spiega alla cameriera (in realtà da questo momento sono 2 le cameriere interessante alla vicenda) che sul menù è chiaro ciò che intende con calzone special e che se qualcosa non va bene è un problema mio, in quanto io ho ordinato quello e non loro ad aver sbagliato. Allora le cameriere tornano da me con il piatto, me lo ripropongono e mi sottolineano che sul menù "c'è scritto in italiano", "si capisce bene" e cose così. Morale della favola: quello che avevo ordinato non era un calzone FARCITO (participio passato) con speck e crema al formaggio ma bensì un calzone MODELLO FARCITO (un altra possibile scelta del menù) con l'aggiunta esterna di speck e crema al formaggio. Ma ovviamente "è italiano", e quello ad aver capito male sono io. Detto questo, e solo dopo essersi assicurata di avermi fatto comprendere l'errore, mi propone un cambio di piatto, che ovviamente, dopo la scenata, rifiuto. Ovviamente, e penso sia chiaro, il problema non è stato nel piatto di per sé, ma nello sgarbato trattamento che abbiamo ricevuto, che mai avrei pensato di poter ricevere in un locale, soprattutto quello. Alla fine, nel pagare, nessuna scusa o chiarimento e ovviamente calzone pagato per intero (ovviamente non pretendevo mi venisse tolto dal conto). La mia recensione prima di questa esperienza la potete leggere sopra, la mia opinione di questo locale qui. Una vera delusione, soprattutto perché consideravo questo locale una delle migliori...

Locale accogliente e pulito, nulla da dire riguardo la location e la pulizia

Prezzi decisamente alti. Pizze con prezzi già esagerati, ma la ciliegina sulla torta è il supplemento di 1,50€ per ogni ingrediente aggiuntivo. Se io per esempio chiedessi due cipolle su una pizza, dovrei pagare 1,50€ in più. A tale prezzo vai alla coop e ci compri il cesto di cipolle, quindi non veniamo a raccontarci che sono costi di gestione...

A mio parere tale dinamica è esagerata, data la non troppa scelta di pizze inserite nel menù.

Sempre per quanto concerne i prezzi, trovo assurdo pagare 7,50€ per una diavola che in realtà è una margherita con letteralmente 4 fette di salame piccante buttate sopra alla buona. Insomma, per tale prezzo sarebbe stato meglio abbondare leggermente di più con gli ingredienti. Magari sono abituato bene io, ma la foto è lì. Sta a voi giudicare. A mio parere qui si va fin troppo al risparmio. Mi starebbe bene per 6,50€, ma non per 7,50€..

L'impasto è discreto. Nulla di emozionante, nella media. Non è né cattiva né buona. La classica pizza sottile con ingredienti di discreta qualità. Non si può dire che sia cattiva, ma ho mangiato di meglio.

Le dimensioni della pizza sono invece minute. Dato che l'impasto è già sottile di base, suggerisco di aumentare il peso dei panetti. Mangiare pizze più grandi sicuramente giustificherebbe già di più prezzi così elevati. Pizze così piccole difficilmente le ho viste.

Infine, nota positiva riguardo alla cordialità del personale. Gentile e disponibile. Forse la sala è fin troppo caotica di personale. Ma queste sicuramente sono scelte del proprietario che non ci devono interessare.

Tirando le somme: il tallone d'Achille sono i prezzi! Per nulla proporzionati alla qualità e soprattutto alla quantità degli ingredienti. Senza dubbio da lavorarci sopra. Per me sarà l'ultima volta...
