We came here for our anniversary with a lot of anticipations. Colleagues and friends raved about this place.
The experience overall was not bad, but it did not met our expectations, and it was definitely not up for the price tag (70€ per person)
The good: Artichoke was very good and so was the “battuta di fassona”. The special dish of the day was Asado, very tender and juicy. Wine list is also very good.
The bad: We had to wait 20’ to get our orders in. There were very few guests when we arrived, and for other customers, the serving was much faster.
The deer (26€) was supposed to be tender as it was cooked with sous vide technique. It was terrible. Tough and not flavorful. To make it worse…no sauce!! How can you possibly serve meet with no sauce? Asado came without it as well, but at least it was tender and fatty. On top, veggies were not properly cooked.
Desserts. Boy these were rough. My Tirami-choux was burned and the coffee sauce was too sweet. Wife’s tartellette with blueberry had thick pastry and literally no flavor.
Last thing. Having a waiter that constantly looks over your table and stares made us pretty...
Read moreWe went here for lunch with a group of four people. We all got primi & secundi piatti and ordered one bottle of white wine. Afterwards we all went for coffee. There were two bottles of water on the table, one still and one sparkling. Very nice that this is already there! Our total bill came down to 132 euro. Great value, given the fantastic food we had. The vegetable soup with beans, bread and Parmeggiano was excellent. A couple of us went for the suggestions: asparagus with truffle and freshly made pasta with egg and truffle. Very good. The service throughout the meal was very good and professional. All in all we liked this place a lot. Minor points of improvement: when telling about the suggestions it would be nice to also mention the price. The bill could be a little more detailed, now it just reads primitive piatti, varia, etc...
Definitely...
Read moreAlthough we never got the chance to taste the food, we still have a negative experience with this restaurant.
Recommended by local people to make a reservation, very logical and no problem of course. My first call; they're fully booked! When we walk along the terrace later in the evening, we notice several tables available. Strange, but of course possible.
A second telephone reservation initially seems OK, but suddenly turns out to be impossible. In our passage to another restaurant, I walk up to the terrace to look at the menu. Although there are 4 employees, there is no one paying attention or responds to the eye contact I am looking for. After a few minutes standing still feeling very foolish I decided to skip this restaurant during our holidays. I've rarely had such an unwelcome experience as in Moncalva's Corona Reale.....could it...
