We ate here twice during our 1 week stay in Montalcino, once for dinner and once for lunch, and both meals were incredible!
For dinner, we began with the appetizer sampler. We highly recommend this dish, as it offers a small portion of every appetizer, or nearly every appetizer on the menu. This is a large portion and is plenty for 2 or maybe even 3 people to share. All of the items offered in this selection were delicious, and we especially loved the 2 frittatas and the zucchini fries. For the main course we ordered the veal chop which was 1.2 or 1.3 kg. This was a tremendous portion for 2 which was perfect as we are big eaters, but for many this would have been enough for nearly 3 people. More impressive than the size was the way it tasted. It was the best veal chop we have ever had anywhere. Delicious! WOW! And the potatoes as a side dish were so perfectly crispy and delicious! For dessert, we ordered the dessert sampler, which offers a small portion of almost every dessert on the menu. Somehow we managed to also finish this despite the very large portion, and it was delicious. Although we were only 2 people, we loved everything so much that we ordered enough for 3 people and finished it all. What a great restaurant. We will be back soon!
Oh, and the wine list is fantastic as well! A tremendous selection of all the region's...
Read moreAfter a recreative time in the hot springs of “Bagni San Filippo” and a relaxing time, watching the Mille Miglia, we decided to have dinner in “Sant'Angelo in Colle”. We already visited this town before and liked the medieval square on top of the hill. That´s where the Trattoria “Il Leccio” is overlooking the Maremma side of Montalcino. Gianfranco and his daughter Alessandra welcomed us and we had an amazing dinner there. After local antipasti and vitello tonnato we decided for “Pinci”, a typical pasta in this area of Tuscany. Pici or Pinci are long, thick, rustic Tuscan noodles which are approximately the thickness of a pencil. They have a fantastic chewy texture from the combination of semolina and all-purpose flours. Great evening and thanks Gianfranco & Alessandra for the amazing evening! We...
Read moreHomemade pasta with artichokes and sausage, simply fantastic, especially paired with Il Leccio rosso vino. The restaurant was recommended by two wineries we visited near Montalcino, what are the odds, and less than 10 minutes from Montalcino, easy to access. We parked free below the central palazzo where the clock tower and restaurant are located, walked the very short but very scenic walk up to the restaurant. The interior is Tuscan rustic, the servers are very nice and speak English, the clean quaint tables are comfy, and the wine list is excellent extensive and priced right. We are also enjoying a grilled meat dish and vegetables as a secondo to share but the homemade pasta, is a must! The asparagus and boiled egg dish is amazing as is the spinach! We will be back for...
