On balance we had an okay meal at this place - there were some good points and others that could be better...
We didn't have a reservation and we were sat inside the restaurant (rather than outside) right at the back as it was busy. We were given menus, water and bread quite promptly, but a 30 minute wait followed before our order was taken (with an apology for the delay, apparently due to a large party coming in as we did - we didn't see them).
We opted for a caprese con mozzarella (10€(!)), Gnocchi Sardi freschi with ragu di carne (16€) and a bucatini freschi again with ragu di carne (16€). We drunk a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling water, along with a 1/4 litre of the house red (each at 3€).
The caprese consisted of some halved small plum tomatoes and half a ball of mozzarella, this was nice but not worth the price.
The pasta dishes were tasty and well executed, but a little pricey, especially as they were being sold as both fresh / hand made, but with an asterisk indicating contradictorily that they might be frozen (in fairness they didn't taste like they had been frozen).
The water was fine, but the house red was thin and with an odd flavour note that I couldn't place and didn't like. It was only 3€; we didn't complain but equally we only drank half of it.
Altogether (presumably with a cover charge - we weren't shown a bill) this came to 57€ which feels a little expensive for what we got.
Not bad, but it gets the wooden spoon out of all the meals we've had...
Read moreThis ranks as one of the simplest and best lunches I've ever had. Four of us, outside in this rather lovely town (the locals filled the much cooler inside), eating ravioli with sage and butter, perfectly cooked tuna and calamari, with an crisp and brilliant house white ("why not start with a quarter litre and we can make it a half if you need" said the excellent waiter and, I suspect, co-owner). Puddings of ricotta cheese bathed in incredible, local dark and almost caramelised honey, a lemon sorbet you drunk rather than spooned, and a lovely espresso. "We are simple people" said the man. The food is too. Charming and unpushy service around fresh, local and understated food. The very best Sardinia - maybe Italy - has to offer. We...
