Napoli Wine Tours and Sorrentino Winery - Wine Tourist’s Dream!
Many, many thanks to Andrea of Napoli Wine Tours and Carmelo of Sorrentino Winery. Few tours are, from start to finish, exactly what they should be/what you hope for.
Our tour of the Sorrentino Winery on Mt. Vesuvius was exactly as it should be - well-organized, welcoming, well-informed (supremely tasty!) and enjoyable.
Before the tour, Andrea kept us informed about the meet up spot/time etc. The morning of the tour, he arrived early and was able to locate us (despite the crowds) in front of the busy Port of Naples.
As he drove us to the winery, he introduced himself, his company, and the plan for the day. He also took the time to learn who we were and what we were hoping to experience that day.
At the vineyard, we were introduced to Carmelo, the very experienced and knowledgeable vineyard manager who, as we walked around the sites, shared insights into the vineyard history, vines, new growth, old growth, special plots, plans and how the vineyard is melded into the local environment for long-term environmental health and sustainability.
Andrea then took us on a unique excursion to the site of a recent landslide that exposed centuries of soil layers - all the way back to 79AD and the eruption that stopped daily life in Pompeii.
Later, back at the tasting room, he expertly connected the sites, soil, varieties (and winemaking) to the flavours and structure of the wines we tried then led us through a pairing of the various delicious wines with beautifully prepared, locally grown and produced foods.
Andrea’s patience in answering each of our questions - checking with Carmelo when required (humility in this huge, evolving world of wine is, in my opinion, a sign of a true wine professional!) - was impressive. Carmelo similarly took the time to drop by our tasting, offer insights, answer questions, and to uncork a beautiful red for us to try.
Highly, highly recommend both this tour and...
Read moreDon’t mistake this with other tours - I know the listings are confusing but there is only one done by Napoli Wine Tour and you have a dedicated sommelier explaining the wines, how to judge, see, smell, taste it and how to pair the right wines with the right food. Andrea is very passionate about what he does and we both learned a great deal about history of wine through the experience. The food was very delicious, well thought-out and well-executed.
Please note that this tour starts at Boscotrecase station (you can get there yourself via circumvesuviana green line (4) from Napoli station)
We were ambitious and we wanted to visit Pompeii before the tour. However, we are stuck at Pompeii Scavi station and we were about to be late for the tour (as the taxi driver wanted to charge us €50 to travel from Pompeii Scavi station to Boscotrecase station that are only 5 km apart). I informed Andrea and he immediately offered to come pick us up from Pompeii Scavi without a second thought. We were very grateful for his hospitality, and even though we had some delay at the beginning of the tour, Andrea was very patient and did not rush anything.
Overall we had an amazing experience. I suggest if you like nature, pick the tour at the vineyard. The view is breathtaking and the vibe was tranquil. We just had to get away from the city - but that’s just us. Whatever tour you choose, you can’t get it wrong with...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I booked a Natural Wine Tour with a walk through a vineyard and an educational wine tasting at NWT.
The whole experience was absolutely outstanding. We didn’t know what to expect because we never did something like that before. It turned out to be the coolest thing ever did!
You could feel that Andrea is really passioned about wine. He was super friendly, professional and answered all our questions and really changed the way we see wine.
The vineyard that we visited was beautiful and the walk through it was super interesting. We not only got informations about the wine we also got a lot of insights about the history behind it.
The tasting lunch we had was outstanding as well. The selection of wines that we tried was just perfect. We tasted things we never had before and in combination with the amazing food it was simply heaven. I also really loved the fact that it was no problem at all to get something vegan to eat and all the wines we tried were vegan as well.
Words can’t really describe how impressed we were with the tour that we had. So if you think about booking a tour with Andrea. Go for it. We would absolutely recommend it to everyone who’s interested in wine. You’ll not regret it!
Andrea - thank you for everything. It was amazing being on...
