Learn moreI came a few minutes before closing and the owner was kind enough to let me order takeaway despite almost closing up. The pizzaiolo told me to order a normal Margherita-pizza since this is what Naples is famous for. I did as told (it was my first night in Naples), got my hot pizza and went home.
At the time this pizza tasted great but when my trip was over, the three other pizzas I ate were much better! Mascagni's pizzaiolo burned the bottom of the pizza on purpose to give it "character". All I could taste was burnt bread :( The cheese melted a bit too much and what I had left was a mix of runny tomato sauce and cheese. It still tasted good but all other famous pizzeria's I went to didnt heat the pizza for as long as Mascagni did which meant that the cheese didnt melt too much (which the Mascagni-margherita cheese did). I mean, you can hardly see the cheese on the pizza anymore...
