We just returned home from a week in beautiful Neive, where there is no shortage of spectacular restaurants. The tagline of Umano is “cucina and parole”. ( kitchen and words) Except there really are no words to adequately explain how dinner at Umano makes you feel, except to say that after our first dinner there, we decided to go back again to culminate our month long European gastronomic adventure. The food, the service and the ambiance are stellar. Max, the owner, ensures that every step of the meal is perfection, and you feel like you are casually eating a 5 star meal in his home. His attention to detail is reflected not only in the pride he takes in his kitchen, Chef, servers, the quality of his food and wine, but in how he spends time with every patron every night. Nice evening at Umano, but maybe I was expecting a bit more or better in respect to their price point. In terms of positives: the owner is extremely friendly, the staff is friendly as well and the setting is nice. In terms of improvement points: quality of black truffle can be improved as it was a bit tasteless, increase attention to customer service (eg give olive oil and balsamico by default when serving a salad with no/minimal dressing, don’t keep customers waiting to order 25 min after coming in, …). What’s not to love about Umano? Warm, friendly service, fantastically delicious food, and well laid out seating. Beware the portions are a bit large, and yet so delicious, that you will possibly injure yourself trying to eat it all; we ordered 3 courses and absolutely could not make it to dessert.
