Romolo al Borgo — Restaurant in Nettuno

This is an extraordinary restaurant. Staff are wonderful and attentive, very funny and kind with our children. The six course seafood antipasto is unlike anything you have ever had: creative, delicious and varied. Really a fine example of Italian culture and cuisine. The "cappucino" was foamy, but contained anchovies, spices and burrata. There was an extraordinary piece of octopus that had been slow-cooked in red wine. You have never tasted anything like it. The fish of the day, cooked in a lemon and olive oil sauce, was sublime and scooping up the sauce with the excellent bread (scarpetta) was just wonderful. The wine list was just right, and like most wine lists in Italy: just enough variation and very fair prices. Greco di Tufo is a wonderful dry white form Campania. The desserts, prepared by the son of the owner, were creative and delicious. If you have had a lifetime of mediocre tiramisus, try this one. It is excellent, as was the tarte tatin. (Vive la cuisine italienne) The house amaro was delicious. I don't know when I have had a similarly wonderful balance of creativity and good flavor, without being precious. Danilo and his family were very kind and if you take the hour train from Rome to Nettuno and eat here, you will make a great choice. There is nothing like Romolo in the US, not even close. Ho cenato una sera in questo ristorante con dei parenti, e sinceramente la cucina devo dire che è ottima e di buona qualità! Peccato per il pessimo servizio, abbiamo chiesto un cuscino per la sedia, e ci è stato risposto che avendo solo due cuscini per almeno 50coperti(cosa impensabile) erano tutti occupati.. sorvolando il cuscino... per ordinare dovevamo fare acchiappa il cameriere perché non c’era modo di riuscire a fermarli.. fermata la cameriera per chiedere dove fosse il vino che avevamo chiesto almeno 10 minuti prima ci è stato risposto in malo modo che stava arrivando,e che dovevamo aspettare... la stessa cameriera nel servire i piatti, invece di accompagnarli, praticamente li ha tirati davanti a noi. Consiglio questo posto per la cucina ma il servizio assolutamente pessimo.. sono tornata in questo ristorante poiché la qualità della cucina è davvero ottima.. Sono voluta tornare in questo ristorante due settimane dopo, restando colpita dall’ottima cucina,e sperando che il pessimo servizio fosse stato una casualità..ho trovato dei crudi di ottima qualità, un primo davvero eccezionale ma purtroppo il servizio si è confermato pessimo, davvero pessimo.. senza accortezze, e con la stessa cameriera che ti tratta male, e sbaglia anche le comande! Ripeto ottima cucina pessimo servizio! Un complimento allo chef, vorrei tornare ad assaporare ottime pietanze ma un servizio così pessimo non rappresenta l’ottima cucina! P.s. Chef se cambia ristorante dove lavora me lo faccia sapere, perché vengo subito! Basita dal pessimo...

Such an extraordinary culinary experience! Took me some time of searching in advance because I was aiming for the best “Crudo di mare” I could get. Romolo had the top recommendation from locals.. “Go to Romolo!” they told me. And they were right :-) Started with fresh oysters.. then was absolutely satisfied with 8course Antipasto crudo.
