It’s funny, because this is the most Highly rated restaurant in Porto Rotundo. I know that many who read this are likely to ignore this review, and I want to implore you to pay attention if you have respect for local food and an authentic experience.
This restaurant feels like a cruise ship. They bang out 1000 Portions a night to guests who are probably unfamiliar with local cuisine. In their defense, the food is really good. Unfortunately, the experience is not.
To begin, this is a pre-fixe menu for 60 euros per person. It includes 1 bottle of wine per table. They start you off with a walk to the cheese station; (more like a herd of desperate tourists stabbing at piles of pecorino). You are then given three pastas (all delicious) and one meat entree of sausage and suckling pig (my friends said it was really tasty, and they are familiar with the local food).
It’s just that it all felt hard to justify after we had so many delicious meals in the area with easier service, better prices, and more choices. This reminds me of wedding catering - their goal is to feed as many folks as they can as efficiently as possible. Fair enough.
After dinner our server didn’t come back for a half an hour. We waited for dessert for another half hour, and asked to leave without having it. While the server was deeply apologetic- it didn’t fix an overpriced and overproduced meal.
Skip it. There are a few fab places on the outskirts of town that are well worth it. Places without websites and where the food and service are full of love....
Read moreThis is one of the only restaurants I’ve been to in a while that I would 100% return to. As Mediterraneans, my boyfriend and I are not easy to impress when it comes to food. But Lu Stazzu completely won us over from the moment we arrived.
We came here on our first night in Sardinia, and it felt like the perfect welcome. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, and the staff make you feel like you’ve been coming there for years. There’s a rhythm to the evening — you eat, sip wine, step outside for a cigarette or a chat, then wander back to more cheese, salami, and laughter. It’s relaxed in the best way.
The food itself was outstanding. Everything is simple, but that’s exactly what makes it special. The tomato sauce tasted bright and balanced, the homemade pasta had the perfect bite, and the pork was crispy on the outside yet juicy inside. Even the humble boiled potato on the side was elevated — creamy, perfectly salted, and surprisingly memorable. The endless appetizers of aged cheeses and salami with house wine set the tone beautifully. I also can’t forget to mention the dessert, which was the perfect balance of sweet with a touch of savory.
Honestly, we left without a single note or complaint — which is rare for us. It’s the kind of place where flavor and simplicity carry the meal, while the atmosphere and hospitality make you want to linger long after....
Read moreTurned up without a reservation. Luckily managed to get a table however we were asked to be out within an hour which was fine with us. No balcony seating available but the undercover area was just as vibey and had lovely atmosphere. Also was told there was no suckling pig as we hadnt reserved so got offered beef instead which was lovely. Set menu of €50 each. Very large portions and very tasty, traditional sardinian food. Service was a bit strange, maybe it is just the sardinian way. First few courses came very quickly however after waiting a while for the main course we seemed to get ignored/forgotten about. No one came to clear our plates and trying to catch one of the waiters attention was impossible. Finally after about an hour we asked if there was dessert coming. Seemed a bit of confusion and dessert arrived about 10minutes later. Seeing that they serve aperitifs/coffee on the menu we werent offered any of these or asked if we wanted more drinks throughout our meal we had to keep flagging someone down to ask. Quite a shame about the service as the food and setting were fabulous ! After being asked to leave after an hour of arriving we ended up leaving 3 hours later. So prepare for a long night if you...
