L'Orto in Tavola Trattoria Pizzeria — Restaurant in Paciano

We stayed in the Paciano area in a little Villa for two weeks and unfortunately only visited this trattoria on our last night. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a restaurant anywhere that felt more like being hosted for dinner in someone’s back garden (but with much better food than your friends can manage!). The menu was a set of respectful amplifications on traditional local dishes and use the best of their three gardens. For example - a salad of mixed greens including radicchio, arugula, lettuce, fresh and dried cherries, walnut pieces, and a perfect oil and vinegar dressing. Or the gnocchi with truffles (many, but not overpowering), or a roast half Guinea Fowl that sat on grilled bread, topped with an incredible sauce made from its own liver, heart, and other organ meats. We went here without much an idea what to expect, but really had a good time. The place is lit up by little light bulbs and has see trough curtains to set a nice atmosphere. When we finished the main, one of us didnt finish the meet entirely because we were not sure wether we should’ve chewed it from the bone or not. The taste was great nevertheless. When we had desert, the chef came up to us to ask if we enjoyed the main since not all was finished. He told us it was important for him to know and was relieved to hear it was all good. Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our experience here. I paid 18 euro for a dry slice of porchetta that was cold like it had just been pulled from the fridge. It was served with 2 sliced figs (no dressing, just plain figs). I felt like I was eating a leftover Christmas dinner rather than an 18 euro dish cooked by a professional. The other dishes we ate weren’t special. Very expensive in comparison to surrounding restaurants. There was also really loud music playing which made it hard to talk.
