Carbonifera - Beach Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Piombino

A nice, tastefully decorated restaurant right on the beach. Overall, we had a good experience. The food was excellent, the service was good, and the view lovely. Having said this, some observations: There is the bar side which offers snacks and drinks where beach attire is acceptable, and the restaurant side which requires that customers be covered up (no service in just swim costumes). This requirement is not stated anywhere but is strictly enforced by the staff. The menu is viewable via QR code only. While this did not impact us, it was difficult for a table of 4 older people next to us, and the waitress outright refused to relay the menu verbally and walked away. While we did not have a bad experience with the staff, we did observe the unfriendly/unhelpful behavior by staff that other reviewers have mentioned. The good: Excellent view and the bar staff guys were friendly. I would have given 1 star, but due to communication issues our order was wrong and they fixed my wife's order. So I added back a star.

The bad: 10€ for a burger with 9 fries is way expensive. (We counted and each burger had 9-11 fries)

The ugly: the bathroom is ghetto and the lock difficult. I was stuck in there for five minutes trying to get the dang door open, Erich was disconcerting.

The really ugly: this is the worst burger we've eaten anywhere. Now granted, we are from America and they make killer good burgers there, but these burgers were just wrong. Sono stato in vacanza con mia moglie in zona Carbonifera/Torre Mozza per una settimana e per una settimana intera siamo andati al Carbonifera Beach Bar & Restaurant sia per la colazione (tutte le mattine) che per il pranzo, l’aperitivo ed il dopocena. Perché costa poco? No. Perché non c’erano alternative? No. Perché siamo pigri? No. Semplicemente perché è il miglior posto che secondo noi si possa trovare sulla spiaggia partendo da Livorno (e anche più su) fino ad arrivare a Punta Ala, e forse anche più giù. Il posto è bellissimo in ogni sua sfaccettatura. Ottima posizione sia per vedere l’alba che per godersi il tramonto. Il locale è tenuto molto bene ed arredato con stile. Bella musica in filodiffusione e dj set nel weekend. Ottima scelta di alcolici. Rum, Vodka, Whisky di alta qualità, e per quanto riguarda il Gin penso ci siano almeno una ventina di bottiglie diverse e sempre di livello medio alto. Si vede che dietro c’è grande conoscenza del prodotto e molta sperimentazione anche nei cocktail, creati ed elaborati egregiamente dal proprietario Marco. Se volete bere (e mangiare) bene e con gusto allora mettete mano al portafoglio e andate al Carbonifera. Se siete pignoli e musoni il Carbonifera non fa per voi. Stesso discorso per quanto riguarda il cibo, partendo dai dolci della colazione, ai Tacos (salmone e avocado top), le pinse, le focacce, i burgers, le insalate. Abbiamo provato di tutto e non siamo mai rimasti delusi. Ultima cosa, ma non ultima per importanza, il personale è fatto interamente da persone disponibili, solari e simpatiche, che si divertono mentre lavorano. Persone che sanno come stare dietro ad un bancone e come interfacciarsi con la gente. Ragazzi mai scazzati nonostante fossimo quasi a fine stagione. Come se dice a Roma… si ve rode er chiccherone nun venite a rovinà la bella atmosfera del Carbonifera. Positive Mood sempre e ci vediamo...
